North Country Rumble 2011

I Don't post much but must share some subaru racing news.

Three of us have been autoxing our RS this season; myself, wife Heidi, and friend Mark. Mark wrecked his WRX and was able to donate his 225 Direzza's on 17s in exchange for the co-driving.

We were lucky enough to get into the SCCNH North Country Rumble this past Sunday. There are only 5 spots available from outside the club. Our team (Smokin Subie) was strong with 3 experienced drivers in the car and we added a hot shoe miata driver named Corey.

It was the most fun and most stressful autox I have ever been to.

We got 4 practice runs per driver in the AM that were super fun. We went out fast and hard, pushing the limit. The course was very fun with lots of line choice, visual challenging parts, and plenty of room to lift/brake oversteer effectively. Which all meant lots of room to mess up too.

Pizza lunch was provided, and I got to chat with a lot of new ppl.

The afternoon was all business. We got two more runs that both counted, so final times were all 8 runs together and paxed(weighted). PM runs were controlled and very stressful. Everyone had their game faces on.

Our team all ran quick and clean in the PM, and it was clear to all competitors we were a team to watch out for being in a ST class. We had our sites on a STS miata running similar (if not faster) times, but hitting cones.

In the end Team Smokin Subie came out on top by a full second overall!! Mark drove very well (as usual) and was first for the team which got him a small prize (usb wireless mouse), and he got second fastest pax time overall which got him a digital vid camera. Fastest pax time went one of the STS miata guys who's business provided the tech prizes. Heidi had her first successful on tar brake oversteer drift catching it with the throttle during the afternoon runs! And she was the only female competitor! Corey adapted well to the subaru, it was fun/nerve-racking to watch his super drifting style.

Pictures were taken of all teams with their cars in the AM. 1st-3rd place overall got glass trophies with their pictures in them. The trophies varied by size accordingly. And we were also awarded a bottle of champagne.

Many thanks to SCCNH for a very professionally run event while still being very friendly with exemplary sportsmanship. It was a great way to end the season.

There is a quick blurb about it on the SCCNH home page here: sccnh

And you can find our picture on the bottom of the autocross page on the site here: autocross

I have more pictures to come...

I do not know where Mark's (far right) pose came from. He was in super aggressive race mode all day, except for that picture apparently... it's a good thing his girlfriend wasn't there.. ha ha. We get a kick out of it!
