The car is a 1964 Chevy Corvair. As of right now, I runs, Not sure about if it goes, or stops....but whatevs... The BABE Rally http://www.babe-rally.com , is a Road Rally from New York City (Big Apple = BA) to New Orleans Lousiana (Big Easy = BE) BABE...get it? It takes place over 5 days, and the main gimmick is, you can only spend 500 bucks on the car... its a Beater Rally.......

So update for 5/23 - I've ordered the Decals for the car, and I (We, Thanks ReZPunK) gotta rewire the rear lights, and make them blink and go on with brakes... should be fun.. I'm also in search for Decals and stickers for the Hood.. I'm attempting to Sticker Bomb the entire hood of the car.. The Engine is in the Rear so the Hood won't get hot. This weekend I plan to get wiring done, and get a road test on this car.. God knows if the car will stop, glad there is a cul-de-sac with a Guard Rail at the end of it on this road..

had one back in 1977. kind of a cool car but it leaked oil like a bastid. pull into a gas station, "can ya fill the oil and check the gas?!"

had the weirdest alternator belt setup that ran from vertically mounted central cooling fan, across top of engine, then went over some pulleys and then ran down back of motor and around alt, then back up and over. Used to make me dizzy thinking about how it worked.

My 'Vair cost a whole $150, nyaah nyaah.

5/26 Update:

So Today is a day off, The Chief Mechanic is up to Team O'Neils hooning in some Fiestas, so today was mostly parts gathering.. The Decals were made up.. learned that perhaps I should read my emails a bit better.. I failed to see that the decals I got cut were like... Long... and with huge spacing between letters.. so I guess I gotta cut each letter up and apply to make them fit.. S'all good.. The number decal came out AWESOME!! Its a vintage style Circle with numbers in the center!.. Also Yesterday, I got the car Legal(ish).. I got Antique Plates for the car so I can get away with some questionable stuff.... Like seatbelts.. BAH! Hoping this weekend that I get to actually attempt to drive the car on the road....I have no idea when the last time this car was actually driven on an open road.... Should be good.. I'm sure ReZPunK may disagree with me, but I think all that is left is Put the universal fuel filter in, Some how fix0r the blinker situation (Another one of those I really don't need cuz I registered as an Antique, right?) Brake lights......and adjust the Clutch cable.. and GO! 8 Days left to Day-0 in NYC, 9 days to the start!

Update 5/27:

So today's test drive didn't go as planned.. No We didn't hit the guardrail.. Didn't even get 5 feet out of the yard... At first, she went back about 5 feet.. then forward 5 feet.. then when trying to reverse again, the clutch cable snapped, and in the process, caused the Gear shifting lever to pop out of place...... I learned today that those "Help" emergency kits you can buy from your local Car Parts store are pretty much rubbish.. I sourced, with the Help from my friendly Advanced Auto Clerk, an OEM replacement from Oklahoma.. It's two days out....so I hope it gets here on thursday... Doesn't give me much time for a proper Shakedown... But hey, that's Rally.. still haven't fixed the blinker issue.. I'm sure we can Afro-Engineer something if need be. Found an OEM replacement for that, but it was 95 bux.. I ordered it... Either way, the brake lights work..

the problem is the switch that controls the blinkers also runs the circuit for the brake lights and the front running lights.

time is running short for sure.
