2011 STI P2443 Code

Little backstory.  Bought my STI while it was throwing this code (P2443) from Evergreen.  Code states : Secondary air injection stuck closed.  Basically, a valve that opens and closes to warm up the cat faster for better emissions on cold starts.  I brought it in, they "fixed it".  Three days later, code is back.  I clear it myself.  11 days later its back.  Now its been at Evergreen 2 weeks and I have heard little from them.  I call and leave messages or get the "we will call you back", and they never do (that's not why im making this thread).  I am wondering if anyone here has ran into this problem or has any advice on how to deal with it since it seems as though Evergreen is having problems.  They have had multiple techs look at it.

I did a little research myself and found some owners mentioning that their dealer found carbon build up where the valve screws in, once cleaned, fixed the issue.  I made sure Evergreen was aware of that and they said they did clean some carbon and there are still problems. If it wasnt under warranty I would just buy the blank off plate and disable the code.  Maybe I ought to mention that to Evergreen. ha

I usually do all my own maintenance/repairs and am not used to dealing with dealers.  My Lancer never had to see a shop while it was still under warranty.   maybe them having a car over 2 weeks is typical?  I really dont know. All I know is, I am Starting to miss my car.

That long for a repair under warranty is not typical. It shouldn't take that long to diagnose and start a repair. If the vehicle is under manufacturer warranty and your not satisfied with how things are going id suggest visiting another dealer and letting them figure it out.

Your car is under investigation with SOA.  Evergreen has contacted the engineers with SOA to try and resolve your non-typical issue.  Usually the issue is the valves and/or the AIR pump.  Those things have been changed and the code continues.  The holidays and snow (ice in Subaru of New England) have hampered the progress of your car.  Give your service advisor a call, or ask for the service manager.

I personally have not worked on your car so I dont know any details.

Hey, thanks for the post.  I did actually get in contact with Scott yesterday and he let me know what was going on as far as they had ordered a part and scheduled to work on it thursday.  I figured it had to be something a little more involved but wasnt kept in the loop is all.  I am curious to see what they find because it seems like the cars that have this issue have a tough time solving it.  hence the thread seeing if anyone has dealt with this code before.

The code is usually because the giant valves for the AIR system gets corroded.  Water/condensation gets trapped and sits inside the valves and screws them up.  Unfortunately its a common problem.  I think yours is a clog issue in the small tubes that feed the heads, or a wiring problem because everything is working but the computer doesn't recognize it working.  But, I haven't physically seen the condition of whats happening under your hood so basically I'm speculating.

Appreciate it nonetheless.  Silly emissions.

I will admit, it does seem to be some ass-draggin on your car. Hopefully they'll jump back to progress starting tomorrow.

Ha.  I have been very patient with it.  Not really pressing at all.  that's probably why. I know its a pain in the butt and like to be fair and have a good relationship with my dealer.  Its winter and I have a comfy loaner.  Not too much to complain about really.  Just the lack of communication from the desk.  I am sure the techs want it out of there.

Its all good.  I am not looking to get updates from you as I know its not your gig.  I appreciate the input you gave earlier.

Good news. Them having the car for so long made driving it feel all new again and that's a great feeling. Essentially SOA told them the valve they swapped in was defective. They swapped in another new one. All seems well. If another issue arises a SOA tech will actually come out and look at it. Let's hope this fixed it.

Checked with them on pricing for oem fogs. I'm gonna do that next. Probably once spring rolls around.

Been enjoying the car since I got it back.  Love this thing.  This dam code though.

It has come back 4 times since getting it back.  I was paying attention to the temps and current weather each time trying to find out what may be causing it.  First three came back after an hour long drive on wet roads.  Not even raining, just wintery damp roads.  I would get to where I was going and when I start the car to leave, Bam, code is on.  Then yesterday.  parked the car on a sunny day, then it sits in the rain storm overnight.   Go out to start it in the morning and head to work.  Code comes on.  Seems to me it does not like being damp.  New issue has happened two of the four times.  It doesn't want to start.  Like yesterday morning.  Just turns and turns but never over.  A good 3-4 tries to get it to start.  Just this one code, never anything else with it.  Dam emissions.  Car is heading back to Evergreen Thursday.

Man, sorry you are having so much trouble with the code, and now the not starting aspect. I know it's not a good feeling, especially with a newer car!

Hope you get some results soon! Best of luck! (I hope at least other than gas, you are not paying anything for all of this!)

It's such a silly issue I don't think I would try to lemon it. It's still covered under warranty so I'm basically just out time with the car. If it was out of warranty I would just delete the system and disable the code.
