New to the forums here and as the title states I am looking to buy a wrecked 08 subaru wrx with about 103k miles on it, the asking price is $4200 OBO im planning to offer the guy 3500$ I just am wondering if you all feel its a good deal given the damage you can see. there is some front end frame damage the front approximately 1 foot of the right frame rail is bent in. I have access to all mechanical stuff i could need and plan to do all the work myself I just am uncertain of the asking price any thoughts would be appreciated. I have heard the car start and idle for brief period, there is a radiator hose that has a leak so its not able to idle for long, it does come with new front drivers side fender and headlight as well as front bumper cover.

Personally- I wouldn't touch it with a 100ft pole for daily driver use if the frame horns have been compromised. If you plan to cage it and race it, sure, why not.

as far as price goes, the drivetrain and other bits in it are worth more than 3500 if it is intact.

Do you have a frame straightening machine? The body shop I worked at used one to fix the rail on a cr-v. By fix, I mean pull it back close to where it should be then use extremely precise measuring tools to get it exact. then they had to weld in all new rails to replace the messed up one..

It seems like way more work than it's worth. If it was already your car the straightening would be a good deal rather than totaling it, but since you don't own it, it will cost an arm and both legs to get it straight...

You'd spend less money just buying a wrx with a blown motor and putting this motor in it if you can't properly fix the rail. Just buy the motor out of this one.

I wouldn't get into anything with a damaged rail.

I guess i would need to know why you are buying it. if you are looking at it because its "cheap" for an 08 wrx and you want one i promise you its not a good deal.I have gotten several cars with accident damage to rebuild and drive or sell. you are always going to find additional expenses once you really dive in to it. as far as the frame damage that is a huge red flag.it can be fixed but like visonik said, its going to be a ton of work and expense to get it close to being straight again. if you are buying it for parts at $3500 like ryanr said the drivetrain wheels and interior ect it could be worth the money. i guess just keep in mind if it was a cheap and easy fix the car would already be back on the road.
