EJ25 Rebuild

Hello,

So I found a used Ej25 out of a 05 forester on craigslist that I would like to confirm will be a direct fitment into a 07 2.5i. According to my research they are direct replacements for each other.

A little background on the engine, the owners says the only problem was excessive oil consumption, he says about 1qt every other fill up, so based on mpg and tank size I'm gonna guess its about 1 qt every 600-700 miles. So my plan was to buy the engine and rebuild it, new pistons, rings, bearings, seals, etc.

Now for the questions:

I assume I should get the block honed at the very least. Any good machine shops recommend around bangor? Or just in maine in general?

Any other recommendations for machining I should have done?

Who/where should I be looking for N/A pistons, rods(?),rings. I've found some on ebay but don't think I want to buy such things from there unless I can find a reputable brand.

I'm assume rods are ok to reuse as longs as they look good, or should I replace them as well.?(I'm leaning towards replacement but just curious)

I'm not looking to built this for more power or anything just looking to put a fresh motor into my subie.

Any advice is welcome since this will be my first time building an engine.

Thanks.

Did something happen to your motor? Or just getting scared of high miles?

I would assume if you built it for power but didn't put that power to it you would have a long lasting motor...

Nothing has happened to my motor, but my clutch is starting to slip, and I believe I have an oil leak from around the oil pan or possible the passenger head gasket. My last oil change I clean as much of it off as I could(fat hands), so I can try and see where it's leaking from.

So I'm look into possibilities that limit down time, so if I can built a motor over a couple of weekends couple of weekends and then swap it in one day. I've give a new heart to my car.  Instead of just replacing my headgaskets and clutch over a weekend, and have block that has 135K miles and a rough life lol.

But the thought of  building a low boost, medium compression motor has crossed my mind, but I'm thinking I might try and find a wrx or sti block for that purpose. My thought was to build something with 9.5:1 compression so I can still drive it as an N/A motor, until I save some more money to buy turbo bits, then run about 6-8 psi through it.

Mostly I'm looking for a direction/manufacturers for pistons and rods, I've seen wiseco, manely wondering if there are any others, also looking for reputable machine shops. I'm still working out what I really want to do in my head/ what my budget can afford at this point lol.
