Lol that's not going to cut it.
It would probably cut it for a while... I have another system I could use. But my server is PPC and most of my stuff is custom compiled, so switching to an x86 machine would be a big royal friggin' PITA. Besides it would ruin my 332 days uptime

Lol that's not going to cut it.Carter, what kind of system is this site hosted on?

I used to be quite active on NASIOC until I found MS. This site is much better.

Dual Intel Xeon (Harpertown) 2.0 GHz Quad Core Processors running Linux CentOS 5.3, 8 GB of RAM, connection speed is (supposed to be) 100 mbps, too few available mySQL connections

.... The server is located in Dallas, Texas. They call her Gator422. It is actually one of the less problematic servers they have (knock on wood)

I cant resist this... OOO a little server box testosterone...

BTW; This site is run off quite the serious server box to power forums; unless there is more I don't see.

The game server I run is a Dual Core Xeon (forgot the processor class), 4 gig ram, not that big a HDD as game files for the server side are not that heavy: All hosted in Troy NY. We constantly run 4-8 servers (depending on what up, a teamspeak but we do host our site somewhere else in case something crashes... that way we are not totally down. Supposedely we have a gigbyte connection to the net, I can;t confirm it but I know the server box will download files faster than anything elese I have ever seen.

I love this site, how it is set up and such. Matter of fact U may have a user named Teal sign up soon to take a look; he is the guy who does our site for us and he has a great techical site for PC's as well.

and U know I just did something that makes me nuts at my site.. The topic of this is regarding NASIOC vs, this place ( I should kniw I started it) and here I am posting something that is TOTALLY OFF TOPIC... I stink.

btw: I thought this thread was great. I was able to confirm some of the feeling I had about NASIOC soley based on the mutual feelings expressed by others here..

got spellcheck?

got spellcheck?
Firefox has spellcheck built in. At least firefox on my systems does...

And I have a better machine than my server... my main box is a 3.0GHz core2 quad with 4GB ram and a 1TB raid5

ps: The got spell checkthing was to rag on myself and no one else. I have had glasses for all of three weeks now and am still getting used to them. Although I can now see the perspecitves are still a little weird.

I actually had a pretty shocking leap when I upgraded... Before I had a machine with 2 1GHz P3 cpus with 640MB ram (RDRAM is really hard to find...). But I had the same 1TB raid5 in that.

I had that as well with a Quad Core Intel I Owned...notice the past tense!

It was like my STi with how it ran but nowhere as dependable. When it was "on" it was phenominal, just amazing bench test reults but U never knew when something would go south and the entire thing would turn into a trainwreck.

The faster U go's the faster it blows...not that I have EVER blown an engine in my time...

Mine is actually a 2.4 running at 3.0, and I bet I can take it up to 3.2, but it currently has an uptime of 50 or 60 days, so it is running nice and stable.

I use a socket 939 rig, Dual core Opteron (stock 2.1GHz, I think its at 2.5 or 2.6 right now but during the winter I do 2.7), 2x1gb of G.Skill DDR500 HZs (very nice sticks

), and a single 8800gt.

Socket 939 is basically the same as AM2, minus one extra pin on AM2 to allow the use of DDR2. If they made 2gb non-ECC ram modules of DDR1, I would have some, but they don't. The memory controller of s939 processors also doesn't like using 4 sticks of ram, but I'm thinking of adding another 2gb of ram before I get a whole new rig.

I could also use an extra SATA hard drive if anybody has one

I have a samsung 400GB that I used to use and a stack of laptop drives, both sata and IDE.

When I was at the MIT swapfest some guy had a couple 1TB segates for $70 each... that was SOOO tempting LOL.

^ I'd rather get the Samsung F1 1TB drive for $85 than a used seagate for $70.

And I haven't had any bad experiences with seagates, but I haven't heard great things about them either.

I have only ever had one segate fail on me, a 250B IDE. It was 3 years old, sent it in for warranty, and got a shiny new one. Both my laptops use segate drives, my ibook G4 has one (currently in many pieces being rebuilt...). And segate is always what I get for clients.

No complaints yet

This is being split into the "Computer Thread"
Ahh... that makes sense.

The other thread was suddenly truncated leaving me really confused for a minute...

after all the confusion let up, it makes perfect sense... thanks

Nice!
anybody have info on TinyXp? I need the one with internet capabilities.
I freaking love tinyXP. My favorite is TinyXP SP2 Platinum Edition 2, because it comes bundled with craptons of software. But, alas, you can't update it to SP3, so I have a tinyXP SP3 CD waiting for me...

The unattended install is also great, and. for a few days at least, the extremely quick boot times are, well, extreme.

I've also been meaning to try out TinyVista, but eXPerience hasn't updated it since 2008...

Since we're on this topic, I've actually gamed with the hacker named Reloaded. He used to play GRID a lot, freestyle drift
