Oil from Spark plug hole?! Am I in trouble??!

I was going to check and see how the plugs were doing. I pull the rubber stopper a bit on cylinder 1 and a bunch of oil comes dripping down the side! I'd say it was around a couple of teaspoons worth. I check the other 3 and there was residue but not the same amount.

I have been experiencing oil consumption but no performance changes.

So what could this mean, or is it normal?

Seems like a seal went bad

Anyone up for some dirty work? Beer included!
It's pretty easy. On a Forester you take out the washer bottle (or intake plumbing) then undo the plug wires. Drop the splash guard, then IIRC it's 5 10mm bolts (might have been torx, I don't remember exactly). Excess oil will run out when you remove the cover - have a pan ready to catch it.

Pop off the seal, press on a new one, make sure the valve cover gasket is seated properly and put it back on. Can't remember the torque spec, but it's pretty light, something like 8 to 10 ft-lbs. There is just enough space between the cover and the frame rail to get a socket and torque wrench in there (or to pull the head bolts out - lots of fun!). Put the splash guard, plug wires and washer bottle back in and you're done.

Impreza should be exactly the same.
