Need Engine for a 2002 Forester

engine on my forester blew & needs replacing

I'd really like to keep the car

Do I simply need to find a H4 SOHC ?  no matter what Subaru model ?

Any idea where to begin ?  ...hopefully in Southern ME

Any regular SOHC 2.5 from 01 to 05ish should fit without a problem.

You can use a 2.2 from any 90's subaru if you want, too. Just put your original heads on it. That's what I always do with these new fangled sohc cars. You'd be an idiot not to replace the headgaskets on whatever new engine you get anyway, so you may as well dump your heads onto a better block. My 02 forester has a 2.2 swap in it, and it has plenty of power.
