Oh-Oh How bad is it?

So I'm running a die down my shift lever and we all know how hard it is to thread a chrome shaft. After about an inch of added threads the shift lever starts turning. What's that lever connected to in the center console? I got an automatic tranny. It was a real ***** backing that die off while trying to hold the shaft with vicegrips. Not much friction on chrome. thanks for any info in advanced. savoo

hmm. i dont think its connected to much really. its definetly not threaded into the actual tranny. theres a sliding switch setup that changes gears on autos, i believe theres a cable or lever setup that goes from that shifter down to the sliding plate thing. the rod may just be threaded into a nut or something.
