How did you find Mainely Subarus?

Haha that's ok. Thanks! I'm glad this forum is back. I moved over here from STM in... 2008? 2009? It's been a while.

Is your Subaru still your daily driver?

I have missed mainely subarus for a goodly long time. Sadly I don't live in maine or have a running subaru anymore.... but this group got me into cars.

Piston slap or timing belt tensioner?

If the sound doesn't go away when the engine is warm, it's not piston slap, but it could be rod knock. And yes, you're correct, a failing timing belt tensioner can cause a similar noise. I've had it happen on one of my cars.  Do you know the history of the timing belt replacement on this car...

    Hi Everyone

The URL format is structured differently, look at the current URL http://www.mainelysubarus.com/forums/topic/17358-hi-everyone/ and the URL of the page that doesn't work  http://www.mainelysubarus.com/forum/index.php?topic=4922.0 The forum wasn't changed properly to IP.Board and sadly it...

    das GL!

I want a wagon or a brat. I'd love at ea81 hatch, one of the two door ones. Put the ea82 subframes in it for a widetrack

    das GL!

Yea, I should probably have stopped driving it a long time ago. However, the fastest way to work this summer was through an old abandoned logging road. So it was my daily commuter through the woods. The foreward mounts on the rear subframe literally rusted off the car, the rear strut mounts are...

    Lenient Inspection Station..? Anyone...

You say that, then go and ask someone to post one on the internet anyway... Take it to be inspected and see what they say. Avoid dealers, chains, and gas stations on main roads. Go find some place back in the woods with an old faded state inspection sign. Put on some dirty carhartts, a flannel...

    Looking for a 2000-2004 2.5 engine

It should. Just make sure the IACV is the same, should be the round barrel style IACV. And make sure the cam/crank gears are the same. Crank gear should be the one with only 7 reluctor teeh, cam gear should be the one with set of 3, set of 2, and then singles across from eachother. You should...

    Looking for a 2000-2004 2.5 engine

MAP isn't the issue, the issue is that 00 and 01 legacy/outbacks have one style IACV and crank/cam triggers for manual, and a different style for automatic. In 2002 everything went and used the automatic style, for both manual and automatic. To further confuse everything for the impreza/forester...

    Looking for a 2000-2004 2.5 engine

The intake doesn't matter, so yea, that would work. If his legacy is an automatic, it'll probably just drop in, if it's a stick, he'll have to change intake, crank/cam gears.

    Looking for a 2000-2004 2.5 engine

You can't use 2004 legacy engines because they have oval exhaust ports. 2003 has EGR, but you can just crimp the tube and weld it. Regardless of what you get, make sure the new engine's intake manifold and the cam/crank triggers are the same as your current engine. I've been bitten by that...

    DIY Oil temp sensor

I want to have oil pressure, temp, and coolant temp readouts on one small display. I don't want gauges and crap all over the place. So I'll probably build something similar to the digital speedometer thing I made for the GL. The only pic I have was early prototype stage, but I could add a whole...
