Doing what Justin said is what I had to do on occasion with my impreza. I've heard that the Subaru Extra-S gear oil helps also, just have to find somewhere that has it. Motul and Amsoil are the two popular oils for people who have really finicky transmissions in their BRZ/FR-S.

I wouldn't bother with the 22t cams. High compression builds have been done with the regular cams and they run fine and make a decent amount of power. As to how long they actually last depends on the condition of the 2.5 block. I believe the CR is higher then 10:1 with this build so I recommend...

If it is your 02 RS then I'd say check your air filter, vacuum lines, and clean your idle air control valve and throttle body. If you pull a spark plug and it is black or really dark then you are running rich(not enough air or too much fuel). Might also be worth checking your MAP sensor and PCV...
