I have no pics yet, but I also just painted my stock 02 wrx wheels with Duplicolor charcoal. I like that as well. A dark(ish) color, but not black. Also a metallic finish.

How did you make out with any of this? I just finished a shotgun. I ended up needing 2 retail kits to accomplish the project. It would have been cheaper to send it out and have it done. Except that wouldn't teach me how to do it. As Pedro said, it isn't easy,.... but it isn't rocket science...

I have used these http://www.irwin.com/tools/clamps/sl300-one-handed-bar-clamps-spreaders to compress the springs for my RS and WRX. I would think with lowering springs being shorter than stock, it shouldn't be too difficult.
