The Official MS Bike Talk Thread - motors need not apply

I'm in for the Dempsey 100 miler again this year. Just got back from the Alps so I have high altitude lungs, a couple days of hiking, and one road ride under my belt. Riding in the Alps is spectacular if you like climbing... did about 3700ft in 9 miles. All UP UP UP UP and UP. Coming back...

Thanks Ted... I snagged the seat off my road bike. I checked to make sure it's road AND mtb. Was surprised when I took it off the road bike too. It's carbon with titanium rails! haha! It's also hard as a rock. Good thing I got new bike shorts. If you need 26er wheels, I have some kickin'...

Since you're replaced everything in the drive train minus the front rings, I'd say start there for the skipping. Is it a big chunky skip or just little skips? Sound like it's the back or front? Rode last night on my new Maxxis Ignitor rear tire. Me likey. Hooked up nicely. Too bad my seat...

    Spotted!

spotted a silver Forester XT, lowered, front lip, 17's on Commercial Street on Sunday AM. Followed you all the way down Commercial up onto the bridge. I was in the wife's Outback. My daughter said "Dada, what's your car doing in front of us??"

I picked up a set of Stans ZTR Arch with the Stans 3.30 hub. Pretty nice. Ridiculously easy to mount tires tubeless. Would have liked a set of Hope hubs but couldn't foot the extra couple hundred bills for them. I donno where you guys get your bike parts, but check out Freeman's Cycle Shop...

Hehe! Thankfully it wasn't me who had the flat. Contrary to popular belief, I do still ride a mountain bike... not often, but I do. The guy on the Sugar is on MainelySubarus too... I forget his username. Saabaru - you might want to consider making the child hauler a 1xN. Singlespeeding is...

If you wanna buy all the parts, I'll provide labor at the price of a 12-pack. Why not make the Mongoose into a single speed? What kind of brake pads do you need? I have a bunch of the slide-in type pads for shimano/avid/etc v-brakes that I'll never use.

new wheelset en route... too many loose spokes & dents in my current rear rim... cost of a new wheelset is just a bit more than actually having the old hub relaced to a new rim. Oh the sweetness... oh the emptiness of my wallet... I have a few bike related things for sale if anyone is...

Nice! I've bought some kid stuff from Beans and they've always been helpful. Can get busy during the day though... I'd suspect that at 10:30pm the bike guy was probably happy to have something to do! oh, and I might have a Ti hardtail for sale if you're looking for a new rig. Ted - I'll ride...

Sweet babies... if you're near the SoPo area, bring it by and I'll put it on for you. I only charge a couple beers. You'll need a cassette tool & chain whip to get the cassette off/on. Other than that, you should be all set.

If the rings up front are worn out, might just want to replace those as well. Those can be trickier based on crankset, etc. Just look at the big ring, will say something like "40t 104BCD". You'll just want to match that. The BCD will be the same for all 3 rings up front. I donno what front...

You'd want the following: SRAM 850 cassette (not sure of the cogs, 11-32, 11-36, count the small & big cog teeth on what you have now) SRAM 870 chain (or 890) The Park Tool MLP-1 is only a master link breaker, for on the trail repairs, I'd suggest a Park Tool CT-5 Mini Brute. It's what I...
