need info for a clutch install

Late to the party, but wanted to add to Nigel's comments. You do NOT have to remove the axle nut to remove the axles from the tranny. Top strut bolt removed, and loosen the bottom as he notes. Drift the spring roll out of the stub axle on the tranny and then tilt the hub outboard. You could...

    Exhaust hanger question

My exhaust is still rattling, so I need to get back under there as well. :-) It's the price you pay for a 3" exhaust and I don't mind. ;-) Cheers! John

Do cops hassle you much over exhausts?

Dave, my HKS will shoot watermelons, not pumpkins. :-) We'll see how long it takes before I'm stopped/followed. I drive like an old lady anyway! ;-) Cheers! John

What Oil does my STI like?

I'm not a big fan of oil analysis, although I know that there are plenty of people that are. Just check out VW TDI owners. They have to be the most intense oil folks I know! :-) I combine my oil changes with the motul engine clean treatment. It cleans the crankcase of deposits. I also throw in...

What Oil does my STI like?

Ruggedman, so you're going to use cheaper oil and change it more often? 6 of one, half dozen of another. I change my oil twice a year. I suppose if you want to change your engine block/heads and think that's saving money, I guess that's a choice. The other question all of us have to ask is how...

    Thoughts on Phenolic Spacers?

They say in the description that the 8mm. are for folks with FMIC. They note that there might be clearance issues with the stock IC. I'd go with the 8mm and make them fit though! :-) Cheers! John

    Thoughts on Phenolic Spacers?

Indeed, and I see both 3mm and 8mm spacers on ebay. :-) John

    Thoughts on Phenolic Spacers?

Phenolic spacers are a good idea for high temp applications. They act to de-couple metallic surfaces so that there is less heat transfer across from the block to the intake manifold. Keeps the intake manifold from getting as hot(supposedly). This ties in with the thread about the coolant lines...

    Throttle Body Coolant Bypass

We've done it on all our rally cars. The "theory," is as stated-keep the TB as cool as possible to avoid warming the air charge any more than it already is. Does it work? I know that many reputable Subaru rally car builders do this. We obvious run the rally car in the winter and have had no...
