    Tranny Fluid

Shorty, exactly my point. I think people on most forums(Nasioc/Club WRX etc) are chasing their tails trying different fluids etc. When the syncros start to go, a fluid isn't going to fix them, only replacement. That said, there are huge differences in gear oil and their anti-wear additives...

    Tranny Fluid

Thanks for the info guys. I know that folks have had syncro issues with their WRX's, and I know partly it's due to the metallurgy involved. I think that what we refer to as, "mechanical sympathy," on the team might be lacking in a lot of drivers as well. Folks that are shifting quickly(drag...

    Tranny Fluid

Can you guys shed some light on why you're using a concotion in the diff or tranny? Is there a problem you're hoping to avoid? Just looking to be educated. Plenty of quality fluids out there(including MOTUL which I distribute). As an FYI, I recommend Gear 300 in the tranny and rear diff of...

You can get Dzus fasteners from MSCDirect.com They have quarter turn and slide latches. Cheers! John

    Brakes question/problem.

Thought I'd chime in on the stiff brake feel. What's happening is you're emptying your brake booster and then the brakes are manual instead of power assist. There's only so much vacuum that can be stored in that nice black disc behind your master cylinder. Keep pushing the brake pedal and it...

    Anti-lag, how does it work?

Alright.... :-) Launch control is something that we use on the rally cars. The ECU lets us program in the RPM that we want to launch at. I prefer 5,000 RPM. This can either be switched with the same, or with a different switch, then the anti-lag. We find it's easiest to have a...

    Anti-lag, how does it work?

It's not used on street cars because you end up exposing your drivetrain to huge amounts of torque and risk breaking things. Not exactly what you want to have happen when you're heading out to grab a pint of Ben and Jerrys! ;-) On loose surfaces, agressive antilag is ok because we obviously...

    MFR Sequences & Photos

Still looking for sexy pics of either of the LDR cars in action! If anyone knows folks on other boards that might have pics, please have them get in touch with us! :-) Cheers! John

    MFR Sequences & Photos

Nice pics Runnah! Unfortunately, your first pic is not of us on the jump. Our car doesn't have a red windshield decal backer. There were so many silver WRX's that even Erik and I got confused as to which car was ours! ;-) Cheers! John

    Anti-lag, how does it work?

Maybe I can clarify a bit. I want the STOM folks to be well informed! :-) Anti-lag(or bang-bang as some Euros call it), is a means to keep the turbo spinning when you're off throttle, reducing lag when you're back on it. This means that the power is always there(hopefully) when you need it...

    Cool bunch of LDR videos!

Although we're not going, the Challenge Sur Glace is THIS coming weekend in Sherbrooke, Quebec. 4 hours from Bangor. Awesome show, wish we could go! :-) Cheers! John

    Swap or Turboize.

Just playing devil's advocate as someone who's spent lots of cash on Subarus over the last 6 years. The GC8 body is sweet, I agree. But, when you're done, you'll have way more money that you budget sunk into it. Believe me when I say that money(not to mention the time) spent on mods doesn't...

    Swap or Turboize.

All depends what you want. By the time you're done swapping in a WRX drivetrain and paying someone to do it, you might as well find a used WRX and buy it. Think of resale value and hassle factor. Turbo'd RS's blow up because people don't know what they're doing when they do the install. With...

    Swap or Turboize.

Damn, a few moments of down time from building T-4, so I'll post! The intake on WRC motors was reversed with the TB pointing forward so that the length of the FMIC piping would be shorter. This can be done on any Subaru, but you better be excited about fabbing intercooler piping! In terms of...

    Rear diff fluid?

My in box is NEVER full, so it couldn't have been me. :-) You know where to find me baby... Ciao! Johnny Motul

    bumper ?'S

Although the lightweight bumper beams(they can't be called beams), are nice, I would NOT recommend them for street use because they don't provide ANY crash protection. That said, they will work if you're able to get some. Cheers! John

    Rear diff fluid?

Sigh, first Mike asks publicly what he should use and not within the team, then we're referred to as LRD! ;-) You should run 75W-90 in there Mike. Of course Mr. lee can hook you up with what you need. Ciao! John

    Best winter tires for Maine???

I've had the Graspic(nice), Michelin Ice-X, Continental Ice Grip, Hakka CQ. Of all, I have to say I like the Micheline Ice-X best. We raced on them last year at Perce Neige. Awesome grip. Ciao! John
