plug it in and add music. mp3, AAC, AIFF... it won't play WMA or OGG files. it'll also play MPEG4 and H264 video (their are some size/compression setting requirements on that though) and a touch can also surf the web and what not as well...

I use some 12" wide 3/4" pine board under my jack and jack stand, works for me when i'm on dirt (my garage floor is dirt)
