2000 2.5 rs coupe in need of engine

i am looking to get a 2.5 or bigger. everything about the rest of my car is great, but the engine started knocking. an h6 from an outback would be sweet. not looking to spend a ton but i know engines are not cheap.

if you're gonna go with a six,the swap will be a heck of a lot easier using an eg33 svx 3.3 rather than try to do an ez 3.0 swap from an h6....if you don't decide to replace it with the same 2.5,you would do yourself a huge favor and research the pros and cons of the eg33 and ez30 swaps, good luck either way!

if i make this four to six cyl switch, what type of ecu stuff will i have to do?

can i just get an ecu and wiring stuff somewhere?

pretty sure i am doing this so the research has begun.

If it's your daily driver and you need it up and running. Just get another 2.5 and drop it in. If you can afford to have a project and have to dink around with it, the 3.3 or 3.0 swap is fine... just get used to reading the H6 thread on nasioc and doing lots of homework on this stuff. If you're lazy you'll have a useless car, if you actually know your stuff and are willing to put the time/effort in, you can pull it off.

Exactly. I was originally goig to dump an eg33 in my 99 RS,but the prospect of having my dd on the shelf for even longer than it already has has made me reevalute my goals with the car. Hence,I'm going to drop the motor in my 96 obs and turn it into a beast wagon. As for wiring,if you have found a motor, see if the stock harness and ecu come with it,then you will need to splice it with the stock ecu. Elliseast, a member on here is the only local member that I know who has done it,and is my best reference on the subject. Also,on both RS25.com and dirtyimpreza.com look up Jakeachy and his 99 RS w/ an svx swap,he has a lot of knowledge on these swaps, and is another reference point to use.

I can attest to the validity of the above statement!!
