axle grease leak after brake replacement

2007 Outback had 80,000 service at dealer.  Needed new brakes.  Burning smell we thought was due to oil change and oil on engine. Smell never went away.  Called dealer, stated sometimes it takes a while to dissipate.  One month later took car in and found axle grease leaking and cause smell..........service states would not have known because brakes and axles in two separate areas.  Picked car up to the tune of another $690 and hear a squeaking when tires rotating.  Help.  Should the leaking axle have been noticed during service?  Could the brake replacement caused the axle leak and what about the squeak now?  Thanks.

Usually dealers perform a multipoint inspection with with every service. If they did that, they should have noted the torn axle boot. Either it failed on its own after the brake job, or they accidentally poked/ripped it during the repair.

The squeaking is probably because they bent a brake dust shield or something when replacing the axle. Easy to do.

Take it back to them, and have them make it right.
