Blinded by the light!!! Revved up ...

So, ever since leaving the STM meet this month, and being partially blinded by the Rally Sweep-mobile driven by Pedro, I have decided I need some of my own, asshole blinding lights ;D I've been looking around, and I found out how I would like to mount them ... something similar to this:

Now, I want something BRIGHT ..

I was looking around and I saw the HELLA Black Magic lights and I really like the look of them being black when they're off .. now, I see they only come with the 55W bulbs .... is that BLINDABLE, and if not, would they easily support a brighter bulb? Thanks everyone >

55w is highbeams, but what matters more is the beam pattern. theres really only a 5 watt difference between high and low beam, but the light goes in all directions with high beams, and it aims fowards/down with low beams. if those are 'driving' lights, they're probably most like highbeams which is what you want. if they're 'fog' lights, they'll have a really short and wide range, also good, but not for distance.

I used to run 100 watt KC Daylighters on my Jeep those would burn your retina's out. You may be able to get a higher watt bulb for those.

check rallylights.com for the groovy light mounts in your picture. I have their 2-light set on my Rex waggie. they bolt on in about 15 min, NO mods to car needed. they are super solid and could easily support a 4-light bar with the addition of the right crosspiece.

I run FF100s on the Rex, they are really good for night drives on little back roads. wide pattern, lots of penetration down the road as well. tried running 100w bulbs in em, yes they were brighter but the excess heat shortened bulb life to only a few hours. the 55s work fine. the FF1000s are a whole lotta light for the money. plus, if you stuff into a frozen snowbank or somebody backs into you in the parking lot, you aren't looking at megabucks to replace busted rally lights.

So I've been thinking about getting some lights again. Still kinda interested in the black magics. Where could I found a mount for the lights like these? Eksjay?

I can build one for you that is like mine. Rallyinovations.com has a cool bar (I think redline has one)

I would stray from the black magic. they are a cheaper plastic housing. the FF1000's are what I run on the 4runner and the rex. they have treated me very well. I run 100w bulbs in the suby without problems. and they are $89 for a set right now on Rallylights.com

I need to modify my lightbar so I can mount the lights above the upper portion. Pic:

Otherwise, it's a nice bar. The mounts are underneath the chassis, and it's very easy to remove for Auto-x. I'm even thinking of getting quick release levers for it.

you shouldn't have to remove that for autoX.

it would probably help to keep your body work stresscrack free.

I posted about this in the CMC forum a while back and no one seemed to have an issue with it. (it is a non-performance enhancing upgrade)

I have Hella FF1000 driving lights with 100watt bulbs in the stock location on the RS

I also have Hella 500 driving lights with 55watt bulbs on the OBS

It seems as though the brightness is the same, but the FF1000's definitley cast light further down the road.

If I were to make my purchases over I would go with the new Hella FF500 driving lights with 55watt bulbs

This is a DIY mount for two lights in front of the grill, quick trip to Home Depot ought to take care of things, but use thick steel so the lights don't vibrate.

I want to add a removeable light bar in front of the grill. Imagine the tabs above with a bar going in front of the grill that attaches with wing nuts. Holding 4 Hella FF500's!!!!!
