Gas Cap Area "Check Engine" problem!

Hey, I need some info/help/advice...

My "Check Engine" light is on (Nothing extremely bad), I took it over to Evergreen to get it checked out by Andy when he was still with them. Told me that my Gas Cap wasn't sealing, so air was getting in and that's why the "Check Engine" light is on. So I bought a new Cap an put it on, Light went off for a month, now it's back on again. Went back to Evergreen again, Andy said that air is still getting in, what the hell could it be that's involved with the Gas Cap area??? Had one of the Mainely-Subaru members run through my workplace one night and he told me what it was or could be, but I LOVING forgot *smack my head*

I get the same code every once in a while. I have no idea what it is. I tried a different gas cap as well, and it didn't fix it. I can go months without it happening, but then sometimes it happens every time I get gas.

sounds like a evap code.....could be gas cap, filler neck, vent valve, purge valve, canister, evap lines......I think there somehting under the hood for you turbo guys but I don't remember

If its an evap code means car detects a leak anywhere from fuel cap to engine including all lines to tank and its integrity. If fuel neck is rusty than could have tiny holes in it. Purge valves are important. Where's the canister on that car, like on mine it acts as right rear mudflap and catches snow and ice all winter, not good.

make sure that threads on filler cap and threads on filler neck are clean, ditto for the smooth mating surface on filler neck. doesn't take much grunge there to trigger leaks and then the notorious code. a lil kero or pb blaster on a rag, scrub those parts and I bet the prob goes away.
