Just ask questions on here, that works pretty well. Most has been asked before so you could probably find a lot by doing a search. You can do an opensource tune, using a lap top and putting together some maps, or you could buy an Accessport and load maps from that. What exactly do you have for an exhaust?

The other sourse I have found useful is http://www.subaruperformancehandbook.com/http://www.subaruperformancehandbook.com/

Lots of good basic info, but it does cost a few bucks.

Autocross stuff, but will give you a good idea what is worth doing and what isn't:

I had actually had asked kind of the same question at one point: why isn't their a thread going into the different mods that you can do and why some should come before others. Such as why a BOV is a waste until you get to ~350+HP, why meth injection doesn't do much until you get a tune or why endlinks won't do crap until you upgrade your sway bars.

I got the expected troll response: Search Noob.

Unabombers Manifesto is really good and will get you started into researching what stuff is a good idea and what order.

Of course, "going fast" is relative, so the best thing to do is come out to some autocrosses before you spend any money on your current car. You can get rides in cars that have already had the work done and you get to see what they feel like. And you get to really see what "fast" truly is. I know this statement falls on deaf ears (I didn't want to listen when I first got started) but learn how to drive first, spend money on you then the car.

^Beat me to it! Unabomber's Manifesto is the most useful set of data/information you can get your hands on for your WRX. Full of great info.

There is also a thread on NASIOC that guides you through basic "responsible modding". Should be in the stickys in the Newbie and FAQ section.

So how "fast" are you looking to make this thing? I can give you some recomendations on things but I need to know what your goals are and how much money and time your looking to devote to this. Like they said read read and read some more. Nasioc can be full of info both good and bad so be wary. Autocross is a great way to learn your car and is no doubt fun but taking it seriously is not for everyone. Maybe you want to build a "real" track car or rally x is more your thing. I think autox has way to many rules personally. If I want to put on a new turbo I dont want to have to worry about what class I will be in.

Thanks, I'll definetly look into those sources...The autocrosses sound cool and I'm sure I could learn a thing or two.....my Dad was a GameWarden and taught Warden school as well as driving instruction for high speed chases and things like driving at night with no lights, so I did benefit from his instruction...heh heh was very fun

Well, I want to improve launch speeds and low end acceleration, and improve the cornering and braking, top speed isn't as importent to me as getting there....I mean, 130 + is fast enough on our roads dont ya think? I want to go for quick acceleration, if I can do that AND increase top speed all the better. I drive this car 140 miles a day and have a blast in it....know I'm gonna get busted as I routinly top 80+

I spent a lot of time with the Cobb tuning guys here and learned about the turbo tuning and what not... it is amazing how easy it is to get power from our cars... I recommend starting with an AccessPort because you will use it all the way up the modification ladder. I'm bringing my STI in for a stage 2 protune next week.
