It seems everyone else here loves them too! got an old beater 2000 forester with the 2.5L SOHC. the previous owner did not change the pulleys when he did the timing belt, so I got to replace that engine, by myself, in the driveway with more money down the drain...

However all was not lost when a friend of mine up in orono took my dead engine and rebuilt the block into a turbo.

Ill get pics uploaded here soon, I found a 2001 with MINT blue body panels, so im in the process of swapping everything over and then repainting what's left. can anyone point me in the right direction of the proper way to paint a car? I have an air compressed paint sprayer already, just need to do the work.

once I've had my way with this forester, I'm looking at picking up a 2003 or newer legacy GT, which is the best year/version to go for?

I would not recommend paint a car if you have never painted before but if u must use white because it hides stuff and will not look as bad as a metallic that is not done correct. Google painting a car? GL!

03/04 came in non-turbo only and are good cars.

05+ the GT's were turbo and like to blow up. Seriously, they're ticking time bombs.

I have all the tools, air compressor, paint gun, plenty of varying grades of buffing sandpaper and time. I have tracked down the proper color for $30 a can and im expecting to use 2 or 3 cans worth. (only painting the rear quarter panels and the roof. I figured I would simply sand the panels as best I can, lay down a good coat of primer, 2 coats of paint, and a coating. it may not be professional, but so long as it matches closely.

I wouldn't trust a $30 can of paint but that's me, I do paint cars so if you are going to do it sand the whole car down and lay fresh paint on it don't do a panel and try to blend it that is a PITA and where the $30 paint my look the same 10 to 1 its like 6 shades different this is just my opinion ive done meany back yard paint jobs. but good luck to you
