Suspension screw up?!?!

katnip

the car is black. I swear
I ordered AGX's 01 RS fitment, front and rear from tirerack. Tirerack did not have upper strut mounts so I ordered 01 RS fitment upper strut mounts from Rallispec. I have outback sport springs from ECKJAY.

My lovely mechanic now tells me all the parts don't fit together, ie, upper strut mounts don't fit on the springs. Whad I do? Should I have ordered outback parts, not RS?

Remember, I now have DMS on the car and none of the original OEM susp. bits.

What else do I need, besides the boots and bump stops, that didn't come with the struts?

thanks, kat

I can't see why 01 RS struts/top hats would not match outback sport springs. What year are the obs springs from? But i don't think it matters...

The only things i could think of is if the top mounts from rallispec are incorrect. Or the mechanic is putting them together wrong.

Is it both front and back that don't fit right?

In the front you have nut; bushing/bearing; washer; top plate; rubber thingy; spring; boot; bumper; strut.

In the rear, nut; washer; bushing; top plate; rubber thingy; spring; boot; bumper; another rubber thingy; strut.

IIRC.

R u missing the plates that actually hold the top of the spring. I don't think those would come with bushing/mounts. That could def be the problem.

If you want, take pics of what doesn't look right and i can compare it to what i have.

thanks, pete. my hubby is putting them together and I should have had him do the ordering. I forgot that I don't have most of the basic stuff, and obviously bought "replacement" stuff: struts, period, topmounts, period, springs, period. doh!!

The springs I have are so wide at the end the top mount almost fits into the spring, not on top of it. Al wonders if the RS spring has a pigtail top? Top plate, boot and rubber thingys are what appear to be missing.

Guess I had better start looking for that stuff. Do you have any of that stuff lying around you want to sell? Thanks again Pete

I don't believe i have an extra for those.

But you should be able to pick that stuff up at junkyard. Any 96-01 strut/spring should work (and maybe even newer). You could really pick up anything, cause all you need are the spare parts.

Subardude might even be able to help you out, but he's kinda far away from you.

That sounds about right the top plates are pretty wide. What are pigtail tops?

Good luck.

installed them today, actually hubby did. I was in charge of placement on jack stands, tire removal/replacement and lunch and dinner application (must keep mechanic fed and happy

thanks pete and shorty for the help

Ahh, back to stock eh? I thought you were hard core? Hmmm, maybe you should start looking for a wagon....

interested to hear how you like the more stock setup Kat

for all-around use daily driving, and fun in the dirt and on rough roads, stock w/AGXes is hard to beat!

eet eez all aboot ze wheel travel, ppl ^-^

what I like is the ride height added by the sport springs, the agx's on 2 front and 4 rear are very close to the DMS almost to soft. so the ride harshness is pretty much the same. the agx's don't "settle" the car upon landing as well at the DMS, which I do miss. But that can be remedied if I stopping trying to launch over the frost heaves :
