Turbos from other vehicles.

So I'm a little new here, I'd appreciate a little help. Here's my question:

I'd like to turbo my Impreza rs. I'm looking to start with a used turbo if I can find one. Other than taking one from a WRX or an STi, could I take a turbo from another vehicle, such as an older Saab or BMW, and slap it in my car, or would it take a huge amount of adaptation to make it work? Also, would you recommend I start with a new one, or would used work decently as well?

If you want to turbo your RS, sell it, and buy a WRX. It will save a lot of headache, time, and money. Can it be done? Yes. Can it be down cheaply and stay reliable? No. (Unless Mike can prove me wrong)

if my impreza runs the whole winter you have been proved wrong. however not everyone can build a turbo n/a like that and have it work. and no offense to the op, if you have to ask what turbo will work on your rs, you probably lack the knowledge/experience to build it yourself and have it be reliable, and paying someone costs money, so yeah, buy a wrx.

I'll be a bit blunt, why do you "need" a turbo? To have a "fast" car start by upgrading the driver's know how. Then start with suspension, tires, then smaller bolt on items.

Welcome to the forum

Btw.

Yeah, I do lack the experience, but the turbo would be a long way down the road anyway. I plan on learning before that. In the mean time, I'm not even gonna THINK of buying a turbo I guess. I'm a little new at this stuff admittedly

And yeah, I was also gonna start with suspension cause I don't mind the way my car rides, but it could be better.

Oh, and p.s. I kinda DID sign up for this forum to learn lol so thanks.

You should talk to one of our Mods about your bugeye RS, 2point5RS_Dan is his username. He has had his RS for years. And he is going to install a new suspension on his real soon.

Get an exhaust for your subie, the sound alone will make you so happy that you wont pine for a turbo...for a while at least

Make sure you have tires to back up that nice new suspension. Also be careful with sway bars if you do that. 2point5RS_Dan can attest to that as well.

haha well, I DO like snowdrifting a lot. By tailhappy, exactly HOW tailhappy are we talkin?
Depends on how hard you get into the throttle, road conditions and momentum. I've had it kick out just making a turn, or I could use the throttle and get sideways every chance I get
