Toyota vs Subaru

MAINIAC XV

The Eco Man
Have you noticed the tv commercials Toyota has been running ?

One has them saying they offer more awd vehicles than anyone else. This is probably true since they sell 10x more vehicles than Subaru. They didn`t mention Subaru by name but it doesn`t take a genius to know who they are going after.

The other shows a yuppie family pulling up in a Venza and park next to an Outback. The people in the Venza are all tall and good looking and the views of the Venza show off it`s good points. The people in the Outback are short and dumpy looking and the view of the Outback is only of the rear in a yellow - orange color they don`t make.

I`am all for car manufactures promoting that they feel their vehicles are better than the competion, but I think Toyota is hitting below the belt.

I hope Subaru plans on running some commercials to grandma slap Toyota back.

What do you think ?

They are spot on with the style. The new outback is large and ooogly.

Regardless if they did just build a car together it all comes down to business. Toyota actually just helped another major car manufacturer design there hybrid car system.

Style " Beauty " is in the eye of the beholder. It`s the way they protrayed the difference in owners and the back fuzzy view in a weird color that caught my attention.

Yeah I can't say that I'm a fan of how the Venza looks at all. The Outback is styled great, for what it's intentions are.

Subaru once ran an add in 1988 for the XT6 that proclaimed "The kind of car Merecedes might have built if they were a little frugal and a lot more inventive" (!), try pulling that type of ish these days I dare ya. Different economic climate, different global climate for that matter. Toyota is just jealous Subaru still only makes AWD vehicles, and that is their diehard, loyal, niche market. Toyota, for the most part, makes econobox commuter vehicles (BESIDES MR-2, FRS, TUNDRA, etc...) don't get me wrong, I'm not slamming Toyota. Toyota owns waaay more share of the global market than FHI, but I believe Honda has the highest resale value, right? Kind of weird that they would strike at their (now) brother company. They will never get my loyalty, since older Subaru's are the strongest, most reliable car ever made.

Side note:

If it weren't for the lost decade in Japan, I doubt we would have seen the type of cars that were imported here throughout the 90's. Thank god for the success of the Impreza in WRC, it spawned an iconic car that's relevance is still noted today.

You do know that is incorrect right? Imprezas are available in FWD along with the rest of the line that we just don't get here in the states.

I was speaking about stateside, which is where I thought the Toyota commercial aired. Yes, FWD Subaru's exist, back then and now, US and the rest of the world. We could go back and forth, but I think my main point was achieved.

Let's not forget their new RWD sports car the BRZ either, I'm simply speaking on their reputation, that's all.
