    Feeler: 2001 Forester S

the knock sensor and cv axel are fairly easy to do, as long as you have a 32mm socket to get the castle nut loose. i always end up undoing the strut from the knuckle to remove the axel...roll pin punches help as well to get the pin out.

    whining noise in first gear?

you are forgiven, my main point of the update for fluid choice was if i got the correct weight. is the 80-90 alright? i haven't seen a 75-90 weight without it being advances brand.

    whining noise in first gear?

its not all lucas, the 80-90 gear oil is made by lucas. its their own brand of GL-5 gear oil. the oil stabilizer is also made by lucas, im just not sure if that is the proper one for a manual trans, the guy at advance said it would work.

    whining noise in first gear?

so i ended up picking up 80-90 gl-5 gear oil, not remembering what was recommended on here. it is a lucas gear oil though, not sure if that makes any difference, what i did have in my hands were the valvoline synthetic 75-90 gear oil. i did however pick up the bottle of lucas, the guy said that...

    looking for input

ive heard quite a few people love the weather tech floor mats, the mats themselves, then the factory formed ones as well, that have a bit of a lip around the edges to trap the snow, water, dirt and grime that may happen to fall into them

    whining noise in first gear?

update on the problem, it really only seems to whine a little bit when the fluid is cold...it tends to go away after about 5-10 min (weather dependent) little more time in colder days (lower than 40 degrees)  but when its really warm and nice out (over 60) it doesn't do it at all, i...

    whining noise in first gear?

well that's good to know, ever since i first started hearing the noise ive been taking off a lot easier, i wait until tail end of 2nd and into 3rd gear to romp on it. it is an older trans too, as far as i know its the original transmission for the car. so that makes it 21 years old with...
