pretty sure this is an EGT sensor if it was in the uppipe. the up stream o2 sensor is in the exhaust manifold and the other is in the downpipe. I just changed out my UP for a grimmspeed one on my 03 wrx so i would assume its in the same place for an 02

I just used that stuff on my DP. it works pretty good i can touch the dp and it doesn't melt my flesh.
