An 08 WRX

I'm the newb.

Just traded in a 2007 GSXR1000 and my 04 Outback for an 08 WRX.

This is gonna be my wife's daily driver so I don't wanna go nuts with this thing but I'm all ears about what mods will give me strong reliable horsepower while maintaining my fuel mileage (is that possible?) and make the car even more fun to drive.

I'm hearing a lot of different stuff from a lot of different people so I have no idea what's good info and whats B/S.

I'd like it if the car sounded a little better without being obnoxious, ratty, or tinny.

20 to 50 more horsies would really make me grin (again, if it were reliable).

I'm not sure how much to post up but here's a little about myself.

I'm 39 years old (according to my salesman I don't fit the profile for a WRX owner). I've been studying martial arts since I was 13. Eleven years ago I opened my own dojo and have been teaching karate and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu for a living.

Four beautiful kids and an incredibly beautiful woman that LOVES the new car.

I'm up in Randolph, Maine and you can check out our Maine Isshinryu Karate Acadamies online at http://www.maineisshinryu.com

Here's a picture of the new WRX. The little lady wants a spoiler on it so I'm gonna get that done soon.

I was gonna go with the factory ordered spoiler, any other suggestions? I don't want some stupid looking "whale tail" on it.

Seems pretty easy bill for me I would go to cobb.com and get a stg 2 setup from them. Should give you another 30hp and keep things about as reliable as stock.

Welcome! Awesome car. Are you just going or hp or all around performance?

Good question. I'm not gonna be doing any autocross and I'm VERY impressed with how well it handles so I think primarily I'd like a little more HP.

welcome.... where you from? and nice car! (but im biased, i have a thing for 08 silver wrx's)

on a side note, one nice gixxer too. i used to have a 02 gixxer 1000. miss that thing to death.

stage 2 on your car is a great way to get horsepower out of your car, and is very reliable. downside is its hard to get more power, yet stay fuel efficient. they just dont go hand in hand. the tuning will add extra fuel needed for more powah!

not to mention how will your lady feel about the extra sounds that the car will be making once you get all parts needed for stage 2? you are going to need a downpipe and catback exhaust. these will (even if you get quite versions) make your car louder. i like it, but some just dont care for the extra rumble.

stage 1 tuning might be a good thing to have. it will increase the HP and drivability of the car and can be done on a completely stock vehicle. its said to really smooth out the car. you can borrow my tachtrix cable (tuning tool) and it will cost only what it takes to buy a stage 1 map.

as for the factory wing. its good. to bad you werent around a little while back. i did a trunk swap with someone and got rid of the factory wing for the smoother lines.

good luck these cars are tons of fun! and welcome to the board. make sure to check the group meets section, and come out to one of our monthly events. we ALWAYS like to see new faces and cars.

Welcome aboard. FYI, those "stupid looking whale tails" add a fair amount of downforce and stability at speed for those so inclined and, for those so inclined, we call them factory STi wings.

No offense intended. I see some really stupid looking **** on Dodge Neons and the like with fart cans and some zit faced kid driving them.

Welcome! Nice car. My dad is actually into jui jitsu. He teaches in Bath a little, and is part of the team down in Boothbay Harbor. He has a few gold metals from California events as well. Good to have you here, lots of great people!!

I'm from the Gardiner area. It'd be great to meet up sometime so I can hear your car. What was the decrease in mpg after the stage 2 deal?

I REALLY appreciate the offer to use the tuning tool. How much is a stage 1 map and what are the performance gains that go with it?

NO SH!T?? That's cool!!! What's his name? I've been training with Aaron Blake in Boothbay for 1.5 years and I LOVE IT.

It sounds like Brant.

Yeah Brant is my dad. I have only seen him practice a couple times, but it seems pretty cool. Small world!!

He's phenominal!!! And a great guy to train with.
Good to hear. I have heard he is pretty good. And I guess he must be to win like he has. He has always done great at anything he puts his mind to.

Nice car you got there, make sure you have fun with it, not just your wife:lol:. There are a lot of mods you can do to it, and you can do quite a bit without spending a lot of money. I'm sure you noticed it's already pretty quick!! Make sure you visit here often, there are a lot of good deals that come up in the for sale section.
