auxillary in ipod use

So my fancy new 07 has the aux in jack next to the cigarette lighter that is for mp3 player input.. how the hell does it work?!? I just got a 3.5mm jumper to run from the ipod headphone jack to the car, but when plugged in the aux button does nothing. Halp!

Before anyone says RTFM my car came with a 06 manual so that's no good, option wasn't available til 07.

1) plug both ends of mini cable to iPod and to aux in

2) select "AUX" source on head unit (I believe it's also the 'CD' button)

3) turn on iPod and start playing music

4) begin headbanging

Keep in mind that your iPod's volume setting plays a role, as you're listening to the headphone out jack. I Leave the iPod at max volume, and have the stereo set at 20-30.

always max volume input, then let the receiver do the volume control. reduces white noise and speaker hummmmm.

something tells me that you already tried the method described by Jim, though. Eh Trevor?

That's what I thought, and have been trying, but was thinking there may be some magic trick.

I'll try it again... maybe I have a bad jumper or something.

I could be off here but i thought to keep down on distortion you want to turn the volume on the input device to about 3/4 or 5/6 just not all the way. Reason being some devices loose clarity at the top of their volume range, and the signal becomes distorted, i never crank my ipod all the way? Thoughts?

Well I think I found the root cause...
