Cam Gear Removal STi

Hey, for you guys that have done shortblock swaps, is it necessary to remove the cam gears to just do a shortblock swap on an sti?

I'm very curious

I don't see why it would need to be done

Need to take them off to get the plastic shield behind them off. Standard procedure when removing heads.

They're a biatch to remove without the right tools.

cant take cams out without taking them off. they suck to remove, remember doing your first shortblock at my place?

I highly recommend that folks pick up a set of wrenches that fit over the cam gear heads, if you're ever in a postion where you have to do it yourself.

Yeah, I just couldn't remember cuz I wasnt there for the whole disassembly and rreassembly.didnt realize those need to come off if the heads do

need a special tool to hold the cam gear, plus the world's most stoutest kryptonite titanium unobtanium strongest 10mm hex bit and king kong impact to get the cam gear bolts off!!
