I have this same problem in my 08 wrx. Have you figured out the cause/ found a solution?

Dude this thread is 6 years old, how's you even find it? Go crazy with spray lube

Google search, haha. I am about to go look to see if its a broke weld that attaches the clutch/break assembly to the firewall. Saw some other forums about that.

Unfortunately, my fellow 08 owner, one of the common problems of our lovely new body style is the pedal plate becoming completely detached from the firewall.... Good stuff Subaru, good stuff.Hit it with white lithium. If it goes away, good. If not prepare for extensive reconstruction.
