Flat Tire

The car curse continues, I went to pick up my father and managed to poke a hole in the sidewall somewhere. If they can't patch it I'll have to replace it. Its my winter tires with a winter and a half on them. Will I be able to replace the one or will I need to replace all 4?

Thanks and Happy Thanksgiving.

damn man, that sucks!! I would say check the tread depth and depending on the difference between the measurements, then decide if you should replace all of them.

I'm not exactly certain, but I wouldn't go more than 2/32's. I'm sure if you buy another tire they can shave it down to the tread depth you need so you wont have to replace all 4. I'm sure someone else can chime in. I think jamey said he works at a tire place. maybe he can offer some insight.

Pretty sure 2/32 is acceptable. It is possible to buy a tire and have it shaved to the exact same as your tires too.

Hopefully that's something VIP can do. I don't usually like dealing with them but I've got Arctic Claws on. Looks like its change tires tonight but turkey comes first. Thanks for the info.

tires is the only thing I go to vip now(except for bulbs)

I absolutely hate the stores in bangor and old town because they never give me the right parts, and when I go in there telling them what I need, they fight with me telling me what I should need.

VIP doesn't shave tires. You can order them from tire rack I think! I use to work there unfortunately and I only go there for the above, bulbs, wipers and occasionally tires. I actually had some wheel bearings replaced there only for the lifetime warranty. I will use that up!!!

yeah, when I had my zx2(ford escort) I would bring it there for inspections(bad idea) and they would always find something wrong, even though it was perfectly fine. Brought it to sears auto center, and they passed it without me doing anything to it.

sorry for off topic

I've had issues with them doing an alignment on my Jeep. But they are the only place around here that sell a match.

Mine is lifted so they claimed they didn't know how to adjust the front control arms if they even could. Said they had never seen control arms like that. Still had the factory control arms on it...

Well no such luck, new tires have 10/32 tread mine have between 7 and 8. Anyone want to buy 3 Arctic Claws? Good shape...

I don't know of any shops that would plug a sidewall. That's just too dangerous. It ruins the structural integrity of the whole tire. That sucks that it happened

maine commercial tire did one of our grader tires, but that's got 5 more in case it blows up, and never goes faster than 25. depends on how bad it is and how talented the tech is
