FNG Here

welcome, heh you are evidently already quite familiar with the dreaded 'slippry slope' of modding Scoobies

Beware going too far down that slope. For the $50k+ that some of our members have lavished on their cars (with mixed success) you could literally have a decent street STI with a few mods to make it distinctive yet still reliable, PLUS a full-on built Super Production class bugeye rally car...a well used race car no doubt but still literally ready to go rip up the New England Forest or Rally NY on tarmac or whatever.

beware trying to mix daily driving and insane amounts of 'driving pleasure'....that way lies madness

sorry to say, but extensive archival research has indicated that "Sand People" was a term originallyy copyrighted by numerous tribes of bearded guys riding camels across arab deserts several centuries before Subarus was evAr invented. you may have a hard time laying claim to a term with such clearly defined "prior use." Plus, the Bedouins (literal translation: People of the Sand) tend to be pretty well funded these days (even if oil prices take a dive) and jealously pursue copyright infringement.

Talk to Crawford.

Talk to AMS.

Talk to Vermont Sports Car.

Have ESP in Sterling, MA do the work, unless you have a trust fund for VSC.

Fact is, there aren't shyt for decent Subaru Tuning shops on this end of the NE, IMO ESP is the only one I've seen, this side of NYC, worth a damn.

1) His first was a WRX, with it's weaksauce tranny.

(And I bet it was in great shape after a few 12-sec quarters!)
default_smile.png

That, it seems, was not enough to dissuade him from Soob modification.

(It seems he's a-glutton for punishment!)

2) Yeah, he could roll with some boring-arse, moderately modified STi, but then, where's the fun in that?

Who wants to be able to identify every mystery rattle after a new, high-dollar modification? Part of the fun is wondering which part of the car will fail next-and here's a hint: It probably won't be the OEM parts.

I have an idea for him-an experiment, if you will:

Since nobody else here has done it, here's my suggestion:

"Call Crawford and with their help, make a Wish List".

Take your time, do it Right.

Then call Cosworth, in Cali, and do the same thing.

(Ask for Eric Hsu, tell him STiXXX sent ya!)

Then, arrange for Vermont Sports car to build the car for you, top to bottom, and ALL in One Shot.

(It shouldn't cost more than $50K, (plus the $20K you paid for the car) IF you can keep your modification list "in check".)

<$300 catch-can, anyone?>

AMS make great (great!) turbos, but IMO Crawford and Cosworth will likely sort you out differently.

(While you're at it, have VSC get one of those Spoon wings for Kristoff's '08, they're only four G's or so...)

And for fun, while you're getting this together, get a hairdryer and peel those annoying PINK stickers off of your nice new, white car, order a nice '05 WRX black[/i] carpet, and start thinking how to get rid of that WRB interior.

If you need any help, because of my long-suffering STi build, I have a list of local and not-so-local vendors that can facilitate your whole shebang, for quite a bit less than MSRP in about all cases, including carbon fiber and scads of JDM parts.

3) I wasn't f'ing crazy before this build, but I may be, now, not sure.

Ask Nigel.

Again, welcome!

wow, I know I've found a good group of guys.

I agree, that a boring mod list will only make me strip it down and do it again. Part of modding is learning the good and bad routes and achieving your goals though disaster!

My father and I have built a numbe rof sprint cars and I have an Idea of what I want to achieve, and building my last subaru taught me a lot, but I will be doing a lot of research before I spend one dollar.

I think I will focus on the core before I bolt **** on. I like crawford's 2.65/2.7L upgrade but that is some high dollar ****. I do belive that I may go down the route before I start on the turbo and supporting stuff. I dunno, there is just so much out there and nowhere near enough funding.

Right now I need to meet up with you guys and check out the setups before I go spending money. I also need to sell this house before I can do much else

Luckily this is purely a fun car for me. I can drive it when I want and have it taken apart for a long as I have to. I'm not above shipping the car off to various shops to have it done right either! I flew and drove it 12hrs home just to get it here!

My daily driver is a Kia rio though......but its pretty good on gas!

And now my wife is telling me she wants the new C300 benz! Ugh, at least my wife is cool and supports my addictions.

$12K for a block .

No pain there.

tell yr wife the new C's aren't all that, wait a year and get a new E Class for C Class $.

Right cause my wife needs and new E class!

where in maryland did you buy it?
I spoke with the guy on NASIOC for a week and then on the phone. My wife and I ended up flying down to Baltimore. We checked the car out there and started the long drive home. If it wasn't for the NY traffic I was on track for an 8hr trip.

Of course she does, they ALL "need" an E-Class!

I got my GF an LGT, she totaled it in less than a year.

For that, she got... an Accord.
