um..... :

The thermite reaction can exceed 3000 degrees C,

and molten iron is produced. It is therefore mainly used for welding, and

in incendiary grenades.

There are many possible configurations - basically it is the reaction

between a reactive metal and the oxide of a less reactive metal. The most

common is as follows:

Aluminium powder, Al (coarse)

its just chemistry....but i wiould not advise trying i.t it produces flying chunks of molten iron(2500+deg)

it will go through your leather boot in about 1/4 sec. 1/4" steel 1.5 -2 secs.... I was onece doing a aluminum poor when a drop of h20 got in the crusibel it exploded molten aluminum on some of us. we were wearing metalic reflective Nomex suits.

(they look kinda like what Homer wears at work in the simpsons) People still got burned..scary stuff.

Of course i have worked on other pours were some guys would not have anthing but goggles and gloves and cotton clothes.
