headlights dim on one side

so i was driving my legacy last night and my drivers headlight went dim. so i bought new bulbs and put them in. and its still dim and idk what to do. the plug in for the head light was melted so i made new connectors and its still dim...

 
OP, RE YOU USING UPGRADED BULBS...LIKE 80/100W INSTYEAD OF STOCK? this often leads to cooked headlight wiring

(sorry for all caps, am not actually yelling)

 
Yeah, what is the wattage? And what is the wattage of a stock bulb? This happens all the time at work. Somebody puts an 80w bulb where a 55w is supposed to be. Draws too much amperage and melts the connectors. Go back to stock wattage bulbs, or upgrade to larger gauge headlight wiring. The small wiring can't handle that much juice.

 
ok so i checked my fuses and it was a fuse... but i ended up swapping out the stock connectors for the aftermarket heavyduty ones

 
if it needs an 80 to satisfy.. fix at it until 55w shines a couple of miles (that is still a huge freakin lightbulb)

the loyales and 55w are still way way out there...(all glass)

blame the plastics, blame whatever on the new.. I would not go at melting anything more than it is oem worth.

and by plastics.. it could even be the side tanks on a cheap radiator (subarus orignal design revolved around all metal radiators... and they did help the lights)

I see that whole run of legacy.. one bulb or the other out (I am on city street) the subes and a certain generation.. I would swear it is every one of them. Owners must get pissed and say the hell with it...there is that many of them one bulb out.

I don't see how the heat from the wiring would melt anything on the radiator... but this is the reason I went with 10 awg wiring for my driving lights.
