Infrared Testing Volume 2 **Featuring Design Engineering Inc. (DEI)**

For this installment of infrared testing, Design Engineering Inc. products is being featured (DEI). The test vehicle will be a stage 2 2011 WRX. There are 3 products that will go through various tests to see how well these products work by themselves, and how well they all work together in the WRX engine bay.

Product #1 is DEI's titanium exhaust wrap, part #010132 2"x35ft roll

also included is stainless locking ties for securing the exhaust wrap

part # 010202 14" locking ties

locking ties features

-can withstand temperatures in excess of 2500F

- 100 lb tensile strength

Product #2 is DEI's reflect-a-gold foil tape part # 010392 12"x24" sheet

product features

-made of space age polymer

-withstands continuous temperatures of 850 F

-self adhesive

-minimal clearance needed

-ultra light weight

Product #3 is DEI's floor and tunnel shield 2 part # 050501 3.5 sq ft

product features-

-excellent heat and sound barrier

-wind and water will not effect adhesive

-minimum clearance required, only 3/16" thick

-aggressive self adhesive backing holds past 450 F

-easily shape, trim, peel, and stick. sticks to fiberglass

-constructed from 10 mil aluminum bonded to a finely woven layer of high temperature resistant glass fiber

stay tuned for the results of this infrared study. these are very common products used on our cars and we will finally know how well these all work.

I just used that stuff on my DP. it works pretty good i can touch the dp and it doesn't melt my flesh.

Idk which exhaust wrap I used, but i can touch my headers and not burst in to flame, I'd be interested to see howe much difference it made though

the piece of exposed turbo shows you the temperature of the turbocharger. the downpipe temperature stays consistant and slowly decreases as you move away from the turbo.

This image shows the extended idle temps (15 min after operating temperature has been reached.)
