My family has a friend, that is from Germany, who is coming over to the US for about a year. She is showing up next month and will be working at a coastal hotel to support herself. She certianly isn't expecting us to give her the use of a car while she is here, but she does need some help finding one for herself. Supposedly her budget is $2000.
We are thinking that a Subaru is going to be the best bet for her (winter driving, value, reliabilty), but there is always the issue of what happens to the car when she leaves. She is obviously not going to take it back to Germany (I think she has a car over there anyways) so it's going to need a new home when her need for it is done.
My 2.5rs would be available for her to rent, but it's my winter car so I don't have to deal with the Mini in the snow. And my wife doesn't really want to be that closely involved.
We will obviously help her out with maintaining said car, but really we need something that doesn't need a lot of work right off the bat.
So....
Inspected
at least one year of life
summer and winter tires would be best
low enough cost to not worry about resale in a year
Any help would be appreciated.
