Ok I was installing fog lights on my car yesterday. I unhooked the negative battery terminal. Ever since I did that the car has been idling really low. Then the check engine light came on and the code was p0506.

YARRR SUBY MONSTER!!
Drive it a few miles to warm it up and see if it comes back around. Sometimes when you reset the computer it doesn't work properly until you warm it up and it can relearn how to work. Or whatever. The same thing has happened on my car.

The 05s are a real pain to relearn idle (after disconnecting battery it forgets the learned idle point).  Some times letting it idle for a few minutes, without touching the throttle, works, sometimes you have to let it idle until it cycles the fans a couple times.  Which means its going thru the entire warm up, fans come on, go off, idle some more, fans come on, go off, idle some more.  Takes like a half hour or more.

2005 Foresters with manual trans take FOREVER to relearn idle.
