I have decided against putting a six cyl engine in my rs. i don't have the time or money. maybe in the future though. I have been looking at jdm engines. i know some parts are not interchangeable. is jdm a good call? and if so who should i use? a lot of the websites seem to be vague on warranties and i don't wanna get screwed. i need and engine to last a while. any ideas will help. i need to get this car ripping again.

Good call on just doing a 2.5 to get it running.

You've got 3 options:

1. Hope someone on here or NES or Nasioc has a working 2.5.

2. See if wrecker/junkyard/ebay/craigslist/drunken neighbors have one. http://www.car-part.com/ indexes some wreckers and might find you a motor.

3. If it were me, considering the motors on carparts go from 800 to 1200, I'd look into brand new motors. I have zero experience, but a guy on a private forum I frequent bought an 02RS with a cooked motor and he got a longblock from this company: http://www.outfrontmotorsports.com/homepage.htm I have no experience with this company, but it's come up a few times in another site I frequent. If you're paying a wrecker 800 for a motor with 100K+ miles, why not try spending more money and getting a fresh motor. Couldn't hurt to call that company I linked or another motor builder company and say "look, I blew my 2.5NA and need another, got a quote for me?"

sound advice. i was thinking new engine. just gotta find a damn place to get one, ha. i posted on evergreen to ask if i could get one through them. i am sorta worried about junkyards because the other guys at my garage say that many of them lie about motor mileage and will say there is a warranty then back out when stuff goes wrong ya know?

i will definitely try that website and nasioc

There is a suby heaven in unity/troy. he has done me well on 2 previous engines when i had my 96 impreza. I'll see if i can find his number if you want. He changed the head gasket and timing belt on both motors before installing them and it only cost about 1100 each time. Tranny let go in a bad way. motor still ran.

the garage i had it at finally found a 2.5 sohc engine and put it in. from a forester i guess. either way car is ripping again and this time i will be much better about keeping oil in it. also will do all the timing gear and such as soon as i have the money.
