Next question of the day, not so dumb (oil temp sensor/gauge)

So, the wagon came with one of those nifty OEM gauge pods with an oil temp gauge. The sensor is in the drain plug, and the wiring for it has had obvious reconstructive surgery in the past. Well, with all the snow plowing I've had to do this year, the reconstruction failed. I decided in the process of doing an oil change, I'd patch it again. Problem I'm having now is, the wiring suffered more damage than I though, and I can't tell what goes where. The wires that appear to go to it are white and black. The wires coming off the plug are both white though, no tracers or anything.

So, here's my question, does the oil temp sensor have any polarity or anything I need to worry about?

I belive that it is resistance dependant. So polarity shouldn't matter (that is how the Trans Temp sensor on the 4Runner works)
