not since 2004 has there been a Subaru-less podium at an American Rally event, untill yesterday...

Ken block piloting a Ford Fiesta wins his 5th straight Rally100AW, with Antoine L'Estage and Bill Bacon in 2nd and 3rd respectively, both driving Mitsu Evos.

Ken is off to Mexico now to compete in the Corona Rally which is part of the WRC series. He will be in a Ford Focus RS WRC car. Go Ken!

Personally, I think that this is a great thing for us Rally fans...not necessarily Subaru fans. This is exactly what I was hoping for after the last X-Games...big name competition for the Rally America series. Although I would enjoy seeing Pastranan keep on winning, but I don't want it to be a landslide between subaru and everyone else. Strong competition brings out the best in these athletes and if we're lucky, NEFR will have more at stake than an at-large bid for the X-Games.

No Subarus on the overall podium at 100 Acre Wood! Only 4 Subarus in the top 10!

What is the world coming to?

even tho he was a bit off the pace of Pastrami, KB's win has to bode well for his trip to Mexico to mix it up with the WRC sharks. I bet he was under serious team orders at 100AW to bring it home in one piece (Ken if you wreck the Fiesta we KEEL U!"

Not only no Subarus on the overall podium, but only 4 in the top 10! A Ford on top, 4 Evos, and a certain little gray VW from Pooh Corner Maine rounding out the top 10.

The fanboy tears will flow through the internet like a wave of the ocean.

Glad to see Duplessis do awesome as usual (beat 3 STi's in a 20 year old NA vw). Erik (rallyxi) was also co-driving at the event. LDR was there too! Congrats to all the New Englanders.

I'm also looking forward to all the media from the event.

yess, Senor Block gots a real live Focus WRC for Mexico, heh how would U like to have that prollem, "I gots to race a huge WRC rally with a car I've hardly ever droven before??!!"

Ford kahunas to KB: "Ken, if U wreck the WRC Focus, we REALLY keel u!!!"

did they mention they double-triple-quattro keel KB if he wads some pore old WRC Focus into a ball????!!

who knows the actual history of KB's rally Mex Focus....."well, it was originally built for Monte 04, Gronholm wrecked it, afterwards it got crashed by Mikko in Rallye Catalunya 05, then in 06 Mikko wrecked it again, for 07 Gronholm crashed it at Acropolis, in 08 the car got used by a privateer at Rally Ireland (where he wrecked it) and then for 09 Mikko wrecked it again at Rally Finland, then Ford said wtf, let's give it to KB at Mexico, what do we gots to lose??!!"

it just shows that subes are conformed to the coyotes of a wolves world by making thier own runt compete.

go back to an older sube and compare facts. the day the hatch entered is the day I knew the tiny mafia of bad automobiles was banding together like a pack of thieves. Thier goal is not best engineering anymore, just get a glimpse of ken blocks hack job car from the inside.

I say it crossed the lines into a mini b rally, and noone cares.

congrats to kens career, and that is about it.

there will be real cars on the street with more power and handling, once again, and that is a shame for subaru, they really boosted that constipated realm for a few years...and now failing again, becuase of the rest of the teams.

how bout the porsche 953? it is a similar tale.

WRC cars went to hatchback designs for a couple of reasons: one, that most euro mfrs's best-selling cars are hatchbacks (win on sunday, sell on monday) and also a hatchback with no rear overhang offers a major advantage in rallying cuz you can slide sideways and use ALL the road and with a hatch there's less hanging out there to smack into the scenery.

the WRC cars (and the Rally America cars too) are remarkable in that they are true 'production-based" race cars. of course they are specially built, their job is to win races not car shows! of course they rip out the entire interior, who wants stock plastic sheet burning if you wreck bad? the roll cage is basically an internal tube frame, but the production shell does a lot of the hard work too. no other race series in the world has such high-performance cars that are so directly related to the normal ones droven on the road.

that's why NASCRAP is a joke--a FordYotaChebbyDodge wins every weekend, whoopie doo, the cars are all exactly the same 'cept for the stickers and daubed-on headlight shapes.

So let me see if I got this right... people are still sore about the 08 hatchback change over for the STIs.. People are still sore of Block leaving Subaru, and now are sore that he won his first event in the Ford.... Does that about sum up a Subaru Fan?

BTW GOOOO BLOCK! hehe I'm interested to see how he will stand vs all the WRC drivers..

is it too early to mention that Antoine L'Estage driving the Libra Racing Evo X is currently the Rally American Championship leader?(ok i know its only 2 events in...but still)

They have not update the R-A web site yet, but I think you'll find that Bill Bacon is in second. So that's two Evos leading the Championship standings.
