ok I need a crash corse in subaru NA engines

First of all I want to keep it NA and get as the must out of the engine

Second its going to be on a 08 2.5i

So what could I do?

buy the wrx.

or spend twice as much to build the engine, have no warranty, and be relatively unreliable.

main problem with souping up suby NA engines is that the factory engineers have already done the easy stuff. there just isn't a lot more to be gotten out of em without expensive buildup--2.5 NA can't be easly stroked, stock cams are really hard to iimprove upon (aftermarket cams almost always cost you low end torque in return for modest top end gains), stock breathing is pretty much spot on, etc etc. basically, to soup up a suby NA, you got to out-engineer the factory guys, who are pretty damn good to start with.

much chepaer to just start with WRX in first place, plus you get nice hardware upgrades like limited slip rear diff and big brakes

if it's a project you want, start with an earlier car (cheaper) and then you have some margin to spend on upgrades...not that you can't upgrade the NA 2.5, it just not as easy as upgrading the 2.0 turbo, with less noticeable results.

If you already have the 08 leave the engine alone, put in K&N, add fart pipe, and go after that sloppy ass 2008 suspension. The engine is wicked nice in stock form, the fart pipe will bring smiles and blue lights.

The suspension and tires upgrades will bring the car to life. 90% of the NA 2008s dont have a rear sway bar, start there. :glasses9:

If you dont have the car get a 06-07 WRX, better transmission. You'll be like WTF was I thinking before. :headbang:

Spot on. Losing weight off the car will improve the feel as well.
