Possibly Looking for a Very Inexpensive Vehicle (doesn't have to be a Subaru):

Requirements:
* Passes inspection or is inspected for a great deal of time
* 4 door

* Automatic

Smells decent

Not too sure if I will be in possession of the green Forester I've driven daily for over 2 years..... But if it turns out I won't be, I am in desperate need of a vehicle. It has been very difficult relying on people for rides to important appointments, and many have sadly been cancelled. Quite frankly, as a single mother, it's pretty crappy to be in this unfortunate circumstance. There's only one person who knows if the green car will rightfully be mine or not. Only time will tell. Time that I don't have.
**************** I started my life 4 years ago with the gold Subaru... it is only right I continue it with the green one.*************************

PLEASE DO NOT REPLY TO THIS MESSAGE WITH EVEN A SINGLE QUESTION OR TO TELL ME I HAVE A P.M. I DO NOT WANT MY OPPORTUNITIES SABOTAGED. Please do not inform IB*****nI of any leads, as I will not get them. I will be logged in and will check private messages often.This is a private request for me ONLY.

Thank you so very much for your thoughtfulness in this matter!

Bumping this up as my vehicle was not turned over to me in legal operating condition. I passed up a nice car the other day, in hopes that someone would obey the law, but they must have been terribly busy.

With that being said, I am putting out a feeler to buy a vehicle, or even trade the green car for a car in working order. I will even trade for a vehicle of lesser value, just to get me rolling. I thankfully live where I can walk to many places, but to do my 5+ hour drive, to take the kids to see their dad on Saturdays for 3 hours, is going to be rough.

***** If I keep the green Subaru, I am looking for: a factory exhaust, stock/factory rims and tires in the hopes that I will find a guy friend to lift the car to stock height or lift it, and something else.

I hope whomever purchases my parts that were removed without my consent, enjoys them

Again, please keep all messages privately, with no responses under this. Thank you!

Well, it's been over a month, and I am still looking. The biggest revision, I no longer have the green Forester. I am now willing to trade my 1999 Outback.

**** This car is in decent shape on the outside. Here's what is up with this vehicle:

It has a cracked windshield on the passenger side (that does not affect the drivers vision).

~ 151,000 miles on it.

~ Under the hood looks clean thanks to the previous owner.

~ The fuel filler neck was replaced and the tank was sealed by previous owner.

~ Has a huuuuuuuge gas leak smell inside of the vehicle, with no detection from a busy expert as to where it's coming from.

~ The heat and a/c dash cluster is hanging out, but sort of working, though the heat isn't working at all. The a/c seems to work just fine.

~ The cup holder is broken off, so if you have a can of energy drink to keep you alive to battle the fumes, you're basically riding like a 1980s truck driver with a can between your legs for 7 hours.

~ The interior is comfy and pretty clean.

~ The front brakes will need to be replaced soon.

~ The windshield wiper mechanism is broken and has torn the heck out of the metal between the door and the windshield. However a replacement wiper motor is in the back of the car.

~ New windshield wipers. To some, might not mean anything, but to someone that couldn't afford to buy them, it means a lot.

~ Trunk latch is sticky.

~ Arm that holds the trunk up is broken, but the passenger side arm is pulling double duty and holding the weight like a charm.

~ Some kind of transmission slip problem. When you step on the brake going down a hill, it trips (like if you tripped over your own 2 feet), and tacks between 3 and 4.

~ It also trips and screeches the tires if you are trying to get out of your own way (let's say on the highway), and you get that literal "tripping over your feet" feeling where you scuff your tennis shoes on the ground.

~ The factory radio/ tape player/ cd player is pretty decent sounding, and the cd player part works to it.

~ It has a Thrush exhaust on it. Sounds pretty decent and doesn't shake the car or drone you to sleep.

~ The vehicle is currently lowered, however the stock shocks will be getting to me soon.

~ Inspection sticker runs out the end of November.

Due to the severity of the fuel leak fumes, I am no longer willing to put my children in this vehicle for a length of time. The ideal candidate for this vehicle will have the patience to determine where the leak is, no brain cells (or not care to lose more), no sense of smell, etc.

Trading or buying an extremely inexpensive vehicle is of the utmost importance right now. I have to transport our twins 7 hours on a weekend day, to see their dad for a few hours, weekly. ******* In all honesty, you do end up getting used to the fumes, but then everyone tells you how pale you are when you stop to see them.

I am willing to travel to trade or buy a vehicle (preferably a Subaru) cheaply from as far North as Patten, Maine and as far South as Wells, Maine... give or take. I am serious about my trade or the future vehicle I need to own.

Requirements:

* Passes inspection or is inspected for a great deal of time
* 4 door

* Automatic

Smells decent

* Is not a hazard to transport humans in

* Heated

* Isn't a law enforcement magnet

* Repairs don't cost me an arm and a leg as I am on a limited income with zero dollars coming in this very moment

I have had a certified technician on the gas leak, and the only bit further I got on determining where the "leak" had been from is under the driver's side back seat. But, there's still something very leaky going on. My childrens' shoes and living room carpet are now saturated in it. This has been a nightmare. If I never have to smell gas again, it'll still be too soon. I don't know what else to do. I'm about to auction off this car. Windshield is $239 installed. $239 I don't have. Woke up to 30 degrees this morning. Thank goodness I didn't have to get in the car, cause I would have had no heat nor a way to clear the windshield.

Sounds like its leaking from were the lines come into the car from the gas tank. Its a common spot to rush had to fix the same thing on my wrx

I think a fella member told me that you experienced that. The cap was up that suctions them in, but I still can't find it. But there is absolute evidence of the leak in that area.... though it's dry.

I have still been without a vehicle this whole time, with the above one parked. Does anyone have any leads? It's super inconvenient not having a reliable vehicle for my long distance travels (thank goodness my legs work for in town errands). Thank you!

LOL Thank you. I am no noob when it comes to searching Craigslist, or buying vehicles in general. I am coming here in hopes of finding something from a reliable, trust worthy member, that would make my drive down worth it. The first listing was rather nice, I'd love more than anything to have a Subaru. I am currently borrowing a Pontiac Bonneville from an ex, and would love to be able to give it back so we can cut ties. If anyone hears of anything, by anyone dependable, please let me know! Thank you again, that was super nice of you!

If anyone can help Katrina in getting a better vehicle, or fixing this one, please do. The previous owner used jb weld to seal the gas tank. LOVING stupid. Gas eats anything except epoxy. My daughters ride in this car, and they sit in the back seat, and right below the seat, gas pools up on top of the tank and sometimes under the seat as well. I wish there was something I could do about it, but I can't, financially, and it goes beyond that as well. So please, if not for her, for my girls that ride in it. The transmission also leaks atf. While the Forester wasn't immaculate by any means, at least it had no leaks, or safety concerns. Too bad she didn't know of these issues before she traded. And anyone willing to help, please be respectful. Please send kati a pm, as I'm unable to pass messages along.

Has anyone tried that fuel tank repair epoxy play dough type stuff?  I used it on my gas tank on my BMW, worked great. sealed up my radiator as well. No problems after.  its around 5 bucks at VIP or Napa... might be worth a try..

I'm taking it to a Subaru specialist on Friday who is going to look it over, and perhaps epoxy it for me. Thank you for the suggestion!

The stuff Im talking about is actually sold as "fuel tank repair putty".  Kneads up like JB weld, and worked wonders on my old BMW. Only took about 15 mins to cure as well. If it works, it was well worth the $6, if not, I never recommended it, right? Also, it makes a pretty big chunk, and it stays good as long as its not mixed together. Keep one in the car in case of a radiator leak, or even a bigger problem (oil pan, fuel tank etc). I always have one in my road trip bag now.

Well, after seeing 3 different technicians, I am super close to having the problem fixed. I am having someone take an unconventional/ dangerous approach to repairing the tank.... as evidence is showing the tank leaking from the TOP. In all of his years (nearing 20) of working at a Subaru dealership, he has NEVER seen this problem. Wish me luck polishing this turd!

I just saw one doing that last week.  Quick fix is to cut the floor above the leak, on 3 sides, leaving a flap. Seal up the leak, fold the flap down (after making sure it doesn't leak) and seal the flap with Fusor or something similar. Welding is kind of out, plastic tank and sparks might not mix.

I've been waiting for this repair. But the guy who was going to do it must be super busy. I have a metal tank. I am hoping to just have Burleigh fix it now, and he too has an extremely busy schedule.
