Susp. fitment confirmation.

4WRXter

Skier!
I'm looking for confirmation from people I know and trust. It seems from what I can determine:

I can use most any struts and springs.

I need the model year tophats to match the springs.

If STi struts, only 04.

It seems a big issue is that I should probably use wagon rear struts. I assume the sedan struts are too "soft" for a wagon. The issue is used sedan take-offs seem more available.

Are wagon rear tophats different from sedan??

Oh yeah, and probably spacers for the rear.

My car is an 02 WRXWAG.

I need the model year tophats to match the springs. -- 02/03 and 04 thru 07 are the two types for the rears. 02-07 fronts are the same.

If STi struts, only 04. -- Yes (05-07 rears will actually fit, the knuckle size changed on front only)

I doubt you'd notice any difference in the dampers especially if you're talking take offs (if there even is any).

Oh yeah, and probably spacers for the rear. -- See above

Sounds like you have it all figured out already.

^^^^^^I guess I will take that as a compliment, Trevor. I spent a fair amount of time on NASIOC researching. But everyone knows how threads go. You always get some contradicting info, and it can get pretty confusing.

heh, this thread is perfect example of the well known rule that "subies are like legos....except when they ain't!"

good info, I'd agree with all o the above

add'l note: if you decide to go with STI take-off struts, the stock WRX springs probly don't have enough oomph to work well with em. suggest you get the STI springs as well. there will be approx a 1"+ lowering but that's not horrible.

The best I've seen it explained is that Hondas are like Legos and Subarus are like the generic Blocks that your cheap aunt would buy you for Christmas from the discount aisle at Ames.

Yeah, the WRX I bought has 128k on the clock. The susp. doesn't seem too bad to me, but I'll probably be looking for something used with lower miles to put on before next winter. The car hardly seems worth the $600-$700 I'm guessing it would run for new struts and springs. So....I'd likely be looking for a take-off set.
