Towing with a tow dolly.

so another member on here is coming down and buying my legacy's tommorro. he has a tow dolly and wanted to remove the rear axles. is there any other way around this ?

Just remove the driveshaft and stick the top of a paint can in the end of the tranny. Or uno the end of the driveshaft where it connects to the rear diff (4 12mm bolts) and tie the end of it up so it doesn't hit anything

I did this when a friend broke down, and a dolly was the fastest way we could get the car home. Disconnect the driveshaft from the diff and use a cloths hanger to hold it to the exhaust, or something under the car to keep it off the ground.

do this for the manual and the auto.

The auto transmission. It's in FWD when the car is parked anyway. When there's no line pressure in the transmission the rear drive isn't connected. It uses pressure to engage the clutch packs. So it's already in FWD.

Here's the problem with towing it with the driveshaft connected though. The auto tranny, unlike a stick, is also lubricated by line pressure. Spinning the driveshaft without lubrication would fry the bearings and possible seize it up on the drive hom.
