transmission/ front axle tick??

My car has developed a tick that sounds like its either coming from the trans or the inner joint on my RF c/v shaft. It only makes the noise when I've got a load on the trans, goes away in neutral, and is louder when engine braking. I'm just wondering if this may be a common issue that anyone might know about or maybe something jumps out at you that i haven't considered checking.

P.S. I've got a 99 outback sport with 5 spd. 2.2 NA totally stock

 
does it do it more when turning, if so which way? or only when straight or both while turning and going straight with no noticeable difference?
