Transmission Help!

I own a 2002 Wrx. My transmission likes to grind when I put it in fourth gear so I found a cheap transmission from a 2000 Subaru Outback. It has the same final drive ratio as the stock 2002 Wrx tranny, 3.93. I'm not the brightest when it comes to cars and such but my question is - if im looking to put a new clutch in with this outback transmission, What kind of clutch should I look for?? I think a clutch for an outback transmission - but does it matter what clutch I put in? I would really appreciate feed back. Its going to be put in during the next month or so. Also I'm looking to put in a short throw shifter. I have no idea whatsoever if that comes with what kind of clutch I get or do I have to buy it seperate. Im looking to get a tune.

Thank you for your help!!

WRX transmissions are pull type. NA transmissions are push type.

This means you need different everything.

Master/slave cylinders, clutch, throw out bearing, etc etc. It will not work unless you swap everything out. It's not a bolt in and go.

have not installed yet....but seems to be a bit of mixed info out there on the gear ratios on the trans from the wrx and the 2000 outback...I was under the same impression as you that the gear ratio from the outback being a 4.11. but some research nick and the person he bought the trans from has done said they both had a 3.90 final drive but if you have better sources id like to see them so we can be sure before we put it in.... thanks mike

all wrx's 5mt's use a 3.54 rear ratio. MOST 5mt's behind a 2.5l are 4:11. I haven't seen any that werent tho. whats the trans code?

North Ursalia tranny chart primary source: http://www.northursalia.com/techdocs/trannychart/trannychart.pdf

RalliSpec LTD secondary source: http://spda-online.ca/modules/tinycontent/rewrite/tc_28.html

Cars101 Tertiary source: http://www.cars101.com/subaru/impreza/impreza2002.html (scroll down, it lists the final drive of sedans and wagons as 3.9.

5 speed WRX's are 3.9 final drive. Autos are 4.11.

Legacy's vary between 3.9 and 4.11 final drive depending on trim level. Auto's dip into 4.44 final drive.

Your final drive must match between the transmission and differential.

Put a turbo gearbox behind your turbo car.

front final drive is 3.90 on a 5mt wrx, but due to the 1.1:1 center diff ratio, the rear is 3.54
