True power of production cars.

I was thinking today, as someone tried to race me as I was passing on the right because they were blocking the passing lane as usual, that that is when street cars are mostly tested. On the street you can't really run a full road course or even a real 1/4 mile race, so it all comes down to passing power during a commute.

So, I turned to the R&T Road Test Summary and noticed they list 0-60 and 0-100 times. Now that was interesting, because I could figure the 60-100 times by finding the difference, which is pretty close to highway passing, especially if someone wanted to race to 100, which does happen. These numbers also eliminate the variables from a standing start, such as reaction time, driver's shifts, wheel spin, ect.

So this is the ranking of production cars 60 mph to 100 mph (ties went to higher trap speed):

1. 2.7 Saleen S7 Turbo

2. 2.9 Veryon

3. 3.3 Enzo

4. 3.4 Carrera GT

5. 3.7 LP560-4 (Auto./E-gear Thrust Mode)

6. 4.0 SL65 AMG Black Series (Auto.)

7. 4.0 SLR (Auto.)

8. 4.1 ZR1

9. 4.3 McLaren F1

10. 4.3 911 GT2

11. 4.4 SL65 AMG (Auto.)

12. 4.5 911 Turbo

13. 4.6 Z06

14. 4.6 Viper ACR

15. 4.7 Superleggara

16. 4.7 GT500 Super Snake

17. 4.8 599 GTB

18. 4.8 Viper (600hp)

19. 5.0 Ford GT

20. 5.0 F430

21. 5.0 Gallardo Spyder

22. 5.1 GT3 RS

23. 5.1 8C

24. 5.1 DBS (Auto.)

25. 5.2 GT-R

26. 5.2 Corvette

27. 5.4 Ruf RK

28. 5.4 E63 AMG Wagon (Auto.)

29. 5.5 SL63 AMG (Auto.)

30. 5.5 CLK63 AMG Black Series (Auto.)

31. 5.5 CL600 (Auto.)

32. 5.6 612 (Auto.)

33. 5.6 C63 (Auto.)

34. 5.7 GT500KR

35. 5.7 IS-F (Auto.)

36. 5.7 M3 Coupe DCT

37. 5.9 Continental GT Speed (Auto.)

38. 5.9 Spyker C8 Spyder

39. 5.9 XKR Coupe (Auto.)

40. 5.9 Camaro SS

41. 5.9 M3 Sedan

42. 6.2 911 S

43. 6.3 Challenger SRT8 (Auto.)

44. 6.4 S600 (Auto.)

45. 6.4 G8 GXP (Auto.)

I'm stopping at 45! Slower cars were the R8, Vantage, ect.

No scoobs?

I actually expected the STI to be up there somewhere.

Saleen, Veyron, Enzo makes sense for the top though.

Funny like the cheapest car on your list is like $55K.
Ok, forgot the Camaro SS in the issue, now the lowest price is $35k. Watch out for them guys.

The 2008 STI time is 9.1.

Ouch. I had a feeling they weren't terribly impressive at higher speeds, in comparison. I bet there are some surprising cars that beat that time, too.

The 2008 STI time is 9.1.
So you took the 0-100 time and subtracted the 0-60 time?

The STI is not that slow...

12.4 to 100 and 0-60 in 4.9

that's a 7.5 seconds and with like 4 gear changes
default_frown.gif
The WRX might actually be faster at 60-100....

2009 WRX

12.2 to 100 and 0-60 in 4.8

= 7.4 seconds.

All of my times came from Road & Track and their times for the STI are 5.0 and 14.1, the WRX are 5.1 and 13.5. Considering the STI 1/4 mile time is 13.6 @ 98.2 mph. Cars with a 12.2 time are the Audi S5 and G8 GT.

The 1/4 mile trap speed is actually an average speed over the last 60' of the track. If you drive it you'll notice when you cross the line you're going significantly faster than your trap speed will say

And a 14.1 in an STi is hilarious...what do they have 900lb elephants for test drivers? Motor Trend knows how to drive a rig

Problem with Motor Trend is they don't usually have a Road Test Summary so I've been faithful to R&T. I liked it when Auto Week would list all the times from every magazine. Whenever I looked up at my trap speed it matched my speedometer.

I think R and T are full of crap. I stock 2006 sti was the fastest STI ever tested. it laid down like 13.2 seconds in a 1/4.

Ruggedman I agree with you. They must not be able to drive for crap if they are trapping those slow times in a 2008 which should be faster. It has a few more ponies not much but is like 50lbs lighter than my car. it should throw down like 13 flat.

They are many guys on iwsti with near stock cars getting high 12's with lots of practice.

Road & Track tested an 06 Spec B and ran 0-60 in 5.1 and 13.7 @ 99.8 mph in the 1/4 = 8.6 for the 60 -100 not too shabby for the type of car it is

JeezAm you guys!

R&T tests 60-100 in TOP GEAR

this gives automatic equipped cars a huge advantage, and a huge disadvantage to cars like STI with a tall gas saver top gear

charts are great up to a point, but the guy who said "numbers never lie" is a liar.

lol, actually R&T doesn't test 60-100mph, I figured the times as I stated when I started the thread. Can we try to be real here.

R&T did that top gear test for years, dunno when they changed.

I think my first R&T subscription was 1968...so evidently I am guilty of dragging old info into current discussions. From now on will try to open my eyes before opening my mouth!

Yeah, they may surprise you. I've driven both the manual and automatic 2010 Camaro. They are so much better than the 4th gen cars. And way more room in the engine compartment. It feels like a 4-seat Corvette, with a little extra weight.
