Tuning for new mods

I ordered a new Invidia V3 Catless dp... I plan to put that and my up-pipe on on the 23rd or 24th. How long can I run before I need to tune? I want to make it to stage 2, but I don't have the means to tune it right away unless someone on here can do the reflash on that weekend. Should I wait or can I run the new mods without tuning for a while?

Thanks for and advice.

Caleb

you can run an uppipe and downpipe as long as you want without tuning. it wont hurt your car one bit. however, when you do get a tune, you will be able to unlock your cars real potential.

Well I'm currently trying to find someone who tunes that can and will teach me to tune. I'll tune my own car if someone who is knowledgeable will be around to steer me correctly. I just didn't want to put the mods in then have my car mess up because I didn't tune it. So I don't need a tune after I put those in, that's all i wanted to know. Thanks

what about the O2 sensors? Since I will be completely catless, wont that be an issue?

Yes, you'll throw a P01420 code or whatever. Your car will run worse than stock before you tune it, might as well find a way to get it tuned and then put the TBE on.

And it can potentially hurt your car. There's many many stories of overboost occuring when people dont have a tuned map put on their car with a TBE. Overboosting is bad juju on the stock map...personally the engine isn't something I'd risk, especially if that '03 already has a lot of miles. If you have a boost guage, then go ahead, but if you see post go above stock...then let off!

ok...no boost gauge for me yet... I guess I'll wait and see if I can get someone to tune it that day. Is there anyone on here who can tune that day/weekend? or anyone besides ralli who will tune?

WHAT!? are you crazy. Like ruggedman said. Running a bigger higher flowing DP with out a tune is asking for overboost then-----> blown engine.

Look your stock DP is so restrictive that when you put on a higher flowing DP it will flow so much more air that the stock air to fule ratios will be all off and this will result in a possible lean condition which equals knock which equals bye bye engine if the knock is really bad.

Just wait till you can get the map at the same time as the DP. The DP takes like 1-2 hours to put on so you don't need much time. The biggest pain is getting the heat shields off.

The heat shield has been gone for a while. So I shouldn't run the dp without getting a tune first? Who on here knows how to tune? Preferably someone who has done this mod already. None of us have done this mod before, by us I mean SpinmasterT, JFarr, and myself.

Buy a tactrix cable and an XPT stage 2 map:confused: Should come in at less than $200.

Okay I guess I'm buying the tactrix. I know someone who could build a map for it for cheap though. It will come out let than $200. Thanks guys

Alright,

First off, I'll give you a hand in reflashing the car. I'm going to try to get down that weekend.

Second of all, as far as overboosting, this can happen, but it will not happen nearly as bad as the 2.5L motor. You have a 2.0 (unless you've made a swap) and that should not overboost like the 2.5L motor.

But, there is a way to get around this problem if you have to wait for a tune. The solution is to unplug the Boost Control Solenoid (not the tubes going to it, but the actually wires that go to it). Why is this a feasible solution you may ask? Well, unplugging this takes away its power to operate so you will be running on the wastegate spring which opens at 7psi. Even if you overboost slightly you'll only be seeing a few lbs over that. The power will suck, but it keeps it safe.

Also, XPT makes some great maps for those that don't want to spend the money on an access port or something like that. Also, anyone that needs a hand to just throw one on, let me know.

Which mod haven't I done? haha I have an uppipe (which you're right, I didn't do) and I have a DP, which Lobstah and I did ... and I have a tune ... which Ralli did ...

I already told you that Ralli said he'd do your tune, why can't you just be patient and hold up. He'll do it and he'll do it great!

Don't let me forget I owe you the GMBCS, it's in my car.

I didn't know if ralli could do it that weekend. I don't want to PO the guy who would be doing the tune for me because of inconvenience or what not. I'm just getting some more info on it.

Ralli if you can't make it, Don't worry about it. I can wait to do the mod or I can do that solenoid thing. Just let me know.

Spin I'll see you this weekend for the b-day

I know, I'm just messing with you man. Ralli offered to go out of his way to tune my car ... for nothing. Of course, I would have nothing to do with that and went to him instead

I'm loving the tune, although when you two plan to meet, let me know .. I need a touch up on my tune
