Wheel change

1995 Legacy L wgn. I'm due for new tires soon and was planning to buy a set of forester steelies (15'). I would get tires measuring the same original diameter, which I don't know off the top of my head.

Since I have the stock 14" wheels can I go up to 16's with bigger tires without modification. I thought the later models were lifted about an inch or two to make room for bigger feet. Would I need to lift? Would bigger tires rub at full turn? Would I be able to modify the input to Speedo and mileage?

Have considered an upgrade in brakes.

you can run 195/65-15 on the Forester steelies.

you can run 205/55-16s on 16" WRX/RS take off alloys that are readily available here or on nasioc.com

either size will fit fine and be within a few percent of original tires' diameter, so you won't confuse your speedo, ECU, or ABS sensors too much.

as far as max sizing goes, i ran 225/40/18's on a 95 leg and it only rubbed a little, but that was more a factor of the width than the height.
